I find it absolutely baffling that LL continues to have such poor communications with users about issues and grid status. It has always been an issue, and here we have glaring example of it again.
The grid is down for maintenance for six hours. The scheduled time for it to go back online passes, it does not open, and not a word from Linden! In any moderately well run company that was dependant on it's relationships with it's customers, this oversight would not be tolerated. Were it to happen over and over and over again like it does with Linden, that person would be fired.
In the past we have seen pathetic excuses like "We were all too busy to give you an update." The company has 250 employees. If all of them are too busy as the conclusion of a maintenance window nears to give an update on status, then something is terribly wrong. I would assume there is someone at LL who is in charge of User Communications. They must be asleep at the wheel.
There are people who make their living on this infrastructure. LL is now a utility. They need to adopt a similar attitude for running the grid. If they don't, people are going to exit in droves as soon as Google get's their virtual world up or there is some other viable competitor.
Personally, I'm sick of it. Both as a user, and someone who has worked at tech companies, some of them just as young and challenged as LL, where this poor communications performance would not be tolerated.

People, and great ones I might add, have already "exited in droves" due to this and many other legitimate reasons! Obviously, Lindens don't give a damn! They have PROVEN this to we diehards! This is what we pay for!!!!! I'm not baffled by the lack of communication as its always been this way, despite their PROMISES! This is a company you CANNOT take them at their word!

Different Lindens are better at this than others.. Teeple, for example, always seems to be good at keeping us updated, even if it's just "still going!" once an hour or so. From: Sweetly Blessed Obviously, Lindens don't give a damn!! Please send me your stuff and L$ on your way out..

I think it depends on how the particular lindens are feeling on a particular day. Remember as the Tao states, you only do what you want to do, so if you don't feel like post to the blog, you don't have to.

I don't think it is because they don't give a damn, or anything intentional like that. I just think that there is not someone who is focused on user communications in this respect. It really is quite shocking when you have a million users and you don't think keeping them updated on system status, particularly when you are going to miss a deadline and bork the expectations of you have set, is important enough to track.
