Second Life censorship in Australia

The reason I am posting this here is that there IS no entry in the blog about this issue. I would really like to know the Linden Labs position on the latest news from Australian Senator Hon. Stephen Conroy concerning bans on downloadable 'adult games' such as Second Life and World of Warcraft. If Sen. Conroy gets his way, there will be blanket filtering at ISP level preventing Australians from accessing Second Life whether their interest was prurient or not. So, educators, business people, those stuck at home in real life due to illness or disability and who rely on Second Life for enriching and vital networking with other people, ALL these will be denied access because of Senator Conroy's view that Second Life contains content that is not suitable to be viewed by Australians or because the game of Second Life (sigh... it is NOT a game people. Where are the winners and losers, hmmmmm???) has not recieved a censorship rating in this country.

So, Governor Linden, what is your view on this??? Why do we not see this issue in the blog? Don't Australians mean anything to you?

Hi, Tiam, welcome to the forums!

The Lindens probably will not respond to this thread ... they only come to the forums if dragged, kicking and screaming. The ideal place to pose this question would be at Scott Linden's inworld Office Hour, since he deals with RL governments and SL (Thursdays, 1-2). If you can't make that, you might check out the other office hours http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours

There was a thread last week about this topic, too:
