OK mybe i missing something but I like the idea of age verifcation. First off I dont want to find out that I have been role playing in a adult situation with someone my child's age. I came to sl to get away from kids and to be honest if age verifcation is what needs to be done more power to it. However, I am not HAPPY with being charged for it because I feel it is something that should have been established on their own. An just because they got bad press on something should'nt mean I have to pay for a fix, or better yet them cleaning up a mess that never should have been a problem in the first place.

I seriously doubt there are many real kids on here at all not even that many 16-17 year olds since if they were then they would likely put their age up to 18 or 20 at most, I am 24 and am still yet to meet anyone younger than me on here. I seriously doubt that any kid posing as an adult is going to boost their age all the way up to late twenties or thirties. chances are that any of the age breakers are likely those people who sign on never buy anything and remain perpetual newbs never really ever coming into touch with most regular users or sexual stuff at all. maybe kicking them off would be more effective than this age verification stuff. People are strange not only do they seem to want more laws and indenity proofs imposed on avi and other visual sexual activity than they do on Flesh and bone sex offline. But no one seems to worry about barring kids or young minds from all the combat sims and violent vusuals. I would be at least as worried about that side as the visual sex stuff . People are so weird in only worrying that maybe some slightly underaged person might see the ultimate in safe sex than about them being exposed to violence and death dealing images and thoughts. |

I disagree with your assessment of the contribution that those under 18 would/do provide. Children have been brought up in the technological world, many already have skills which are useful in SL. I am sure there are a vast number of scripters under 18 out there just itching to sell their products to us "oldies". I also disagree that for those underagers that are on the grid just now, especially boys between the ages of 13-17, that they will not searching out the sexual stuff. There is a theory kicking about that verification is the first step towards integrating the teen and main grids. Therefore as in RL the kids will be barred from the pubs, casinos and strip joints. |

A theory dismissed by Robin Linden recently. However there was a reference to another 13+ grid. I'm all for age verification too, I just don't think the proposed solution addresses age, nor am I convinced that it's sex that is the big issue. Any search still finds plenty of sex related stores (and I mean any, I was looking for houses). However gambling? That's the big no no, oh and Gothic Lolita fashions. I don't understand why Mastercard and Visa aren't working with internet companies. In the UK, Camelot who run the national lottery managed to identify and ban certain types of debit cards because minors can legally own them. Hence you can't pay for lottery games with one of those cards. |

You dont have to pay for age verification. You just verify your Credit Card, or your Pay Pal account. Paying for SecondLife is a premium access fee.

The upcoming age verification, whenever it is in the future, will require some sort of payment.. at least based on the information so far. http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/10/further-clarification-regarding-age-verification/ "- age verification will have a one time fee associated with it. For those with premium accounts Linden dollar fee will be nominal. Basic accounts will pay a higher, but still relatively small Linden dollar fee. These fees haven’t been set yet." Though it would not be a "get into SL" fee, just a "get into 'adult' parcels" fee, as I understand it. |
