I just heard about what Lindens have done to sims that have created large communities. What a Bite in the buns! This is going to hamper several hands on educational institutions I know of. What is their problem with this? I thought SL was a great place to learn and grow. I'm of a mind to boycott them over this. They won't pay their mentors/teachers, but take away the ability for others to have schools. What a shame the almighty dollar has blinded them.

Ummm, they haven't done anything to "take away the ability for others to have schools".
They are ending the education discount on OpenSpaces sims, and jacking the price there. A 266.66% increase in price for educators who had been using an OpenSpaces sim as a terraforming lab, or whatever. At L$8.8 per prim per month, it will no longer make sense for anyone, educator or otherwise, to buy an OpenSpaces sim.
But Education will still get a large discount on Private Island sims, which is what most of them have for their education sims. And if you look at it in terms of price per prim per month, the education pricing on a Private Island was already a slightly better deal than on an OpenSpaces sim, and now it will be a clear choics, and OpenSpaces will lose completely. It's a pity that an education sim that only needed a low-prim region for some purpose will no longer get a decent price on that resource, but it won't affect most Universities and Colleges and Non-profits in SL, unless they used a LOT of OpenSpaces sims to sprawl out.
