There are all kinds of things that can cause lag. Other than server lag caused by too many people there isn't going to be much they can do.
Check your gfx drivers, check your disk space, Defrag if necessary, Lower your gfx settings
Server side lag is mostly a question of scaling to 30k users .. not going to be able to be fixed without a revamping of the way the servers are set up. Hopefully SL ver 2 (the open source solution) will address that.
