Quote from Linden Labs, concerning LindeX: "by selling L$ directly on the exchange. "

I assume folks have read the blog entry. Linden Labs sells L$ directly to residents, via the LindeX. I hope that puts finish to a really silly arguement that seems to come up constantly on these forums.

This whole "the Lindex is just a middle man" issue has always been bogus, imho. When I buy L$ off the Lindex, Linden Labs charges my credit card. When I sell L$ it is Linden Labs which pays my credit card. And with the latest blog entry even LL had to admit, they are selling L$ directly to residents via the exchange.

Here's the full quote:
From: someone
Linden Lab increases the supply of L$ in-world in two ways: (1) as a part of the premium subscription stipends that it distributes each week, and (2) by selling L$ directly on the exchange.
The second part is referring to the sales by Supply Linden, as detailed at http://secondlife.com/whatis/economy_stats.php

I notice that Supply Linden still hasn't sold any new Lindens. I think at this point for LL to sell additional Lindens will drive down the value of the Linden dollar, which they are refraining from doing. However, it does mean they have a projected shortfall of est. US$400,000 this month because they are not selling as much as last month. *This* is why I think LL is dumping sims so quickly -- to make up the cash they're not getting from money sales. And this is why they raised the minimum bid -- to guarantee that they would at least get enough to cover the cost of the server and possibly a little extra income on top of it.

(My numbers may be slightly off -- it's off the top of my head from what I remember calculating the other day.)

This, of course, is all conjecture, but I think it's something worth thinking about.

Do I have to point out the OTHER half of the LindeX volume?

quote:

In an average month, more than 75% of the in-world money supply moves through the LindeX...and our L$ sales on the LindeX represent from 0 to 5% of the supply.

ONE FIFTEENTH (maximum) of the LindeX is L$ owned by Linden Labs.
