What with all the spam IMs? I'm getting them all the time.. even on my old alts i don't use.. make millions of L$ or other such bs, or begging for money.. And when I go to find an abuse report, the user name can't be found...

I've noticed the same problem. I imagine there's bots aplenty harvesting UUIDs of nearby avatars, and than another bot is used to determine the online status of the avatar using the UUID and sending the spam IM. There is a JIRA related to reporting abuse of this nature and you might to vote for it.
