Sex and Gambling and PayPal

Ok....seeing as the gambling clampdown is happening here and now....(and for the record I have NO problem at all with legislated gaming of anykind)...my thoughts have turned to sex (about every 30 seconds the shrinks say..he he)

How will Linden Labs come down on the vibrant sex industry in SL ?

PayPal is used by a lot of us to purchase our Lindens....yet PayPal clearly has a no adult policy...

"You may not use PayPal in the purchase or sale of, or receipt of donations for, any obscene or sexually oriented goods or services.....Representations or descriptions of intercourse, masturbation, excretory functions, or lewd exhibition of the genitals."

So it's a very thin line between staying on the right side of PayPal...and not...I can see this becoming the next target or the puritans of LL and the Federal law makers and Pay Pal.

At the moment we are not actually using PayPal to purchase the sex services....but PayPal are only 1 click away from a very dark and murky world...a world we are tolerant of....but PayPal wont be !!

Key line is right here... you're buying LINDENS via paypal.

It's like saying that if you order a broom (off of ebay for example) via paypal and stick it up your #@$% you've done something to violate their policy.

Conspiracy theory version:

The founder of Ebay is allegedly a big investor in second life. Ebay own Paypal. Therefore this won't be a problem.

Sensible version:

Proving that a certain resident used Paypal to fund their bank balance to then go and have sex would be too problematic. I don't see Paypal funding stopping anytime soon.

I like that theory....was also well rumoured that Google would like to plunge cash into SL...but Google and Ebay don't exactly see eye to eye...so that makes even more sense to your arguement.

IF SL in and of itself was considered "obscene", the PayPal theory might fly, but as stated you are buying lindens through PayPal (those that do so that way). Once the Lindens are in your account, what you do with them is not of concern to PayPal I'd wager.

Yep...agree with you....it's like everything nowdays...we are testing out old laws and rules on new ideas...

All the Sex and Escort businesses are indeed on thin ice. It is only a matter of time before some underage kid brings to light all the seedy content available to them for free on SL. The moral majority will be on this issue soon. Lets hope Bill O'Reily doesn't get wind of the goings on in SL.

The Ageplay situation is one that is particularly troublesome area in light of the hyper sensitivity today regarding anything sexual regarding children.

It is only a matter of time.

Lets see if all the Escorts and such who bashed us for protesting against the removal of gambling will now want us to all help them with their issue when it becomes their turn.

Same applies for the gambling also. Especially since at least 98% of the people used money they got in game for it, if not more. This logic works both ways.

It will be impossible to totally ban Escorts save for banning ALL Sexual Activity. You can do way with advertising, shut down adult clubs to an extent, but you can't police the behavior of two people to any extent unless you constantly monitor them. Two Avis can meet, make arrangements via IM, and go to a private residence and get happy.

When, not if, they ban advertising sex just take that as the phase out call, that is all you are going to get.

Actually what I've heard from friends in the industry and noticed is the opposite, people actually have money now to tip dancers. I used to think I was breaking some rule when I was the only person to tip a dancer anything in an hour.

Funniest/saddest thing was when I saw a dancer at one club say "Well I'm going to go make some money, going camping"

HEH! Only dancer I ever watched, and tipped, was a friend of mine.
