There's a thread in the Machinima forum about the problem
of the word Flycam appearing in the lower right of the screen
when in Flycam mode and no way to disable it from displaying.

This is what I'm talking about:

Yeah, I lament that, too.

I think I read AMV Mars mention in this forum an altenative to FRAPS that allows a box selection to be drawn in order to choice what will be recorded - you could use that crop off the text.

It's easy to edit out with a logo filter.

I think it should toggle off with the HUD displays.

Anyhow...it's a small thing. I just want it off. =)

I can sort of guess what it is from the name, but I've never seen one work - can you point me to one, please?

There is a JIRA entry for this annoyance. It's listed as Fix Pending, but it would still be worth voting for jus tot make sure. :)

I use HyperCam which as one poster already pointed out, allows me to 'draw' the capture window within the client. I also capture after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1, removing the additional client window, helps fps.

What they should have in the 'Advanced' menu is a 'Blonde Button', so you can uncheck it and have the useless info like 'Flycam' appearing on your screen, reminding you that's why your camera veiw isn't following your avatar as you walk. :D

Fraps vs HyperCam
06-13-2008 01:07
Hi AWV - can you please tell us why you think HC is better than Fraps? I'd be interested to know as I'm just starting out with machinima. Ta.

There is little between them with perhaps one exception, HyperCam allows me to draw the capture the window on the screen that I want, not preset to full or half screen. If I am taking portrait format, I don't want to be forced to take wasted space/data in landscape mode. Same is true for widescreen. I have a 4:3 screen, but can grab widescreen dynamically using that feature. Its true you can do that using cropping in the editing programme, but again, why waste data capture? I can capture at high resolution and produce high quality formats with little waste.

In addition, I can grab that window and dynamically drag it around the screen whilst shooting. As both programmes are the same price, I opted for the extra features of HyperCam, glad I did.

HyperCam va FRAPS Advice
06-26-2008 00:46
Hi AMV - sorry for the no reply here, I must have missed the notification :(

Thanks for the info. I had already bought Fraps when I asked and wanted to see if I'd missed a better program. To be honest, I think I might have done. Still, neither are too expensive so I might move to HyperCam one day.

In related news, I'm looking at upgrading to Sony Vegas (the basic home edition rather than premium or above). As a user, could I ask if you have any advice on this?

Flycam text JIRA update
06-26-2008 00:47
It looks from this comment on my blog (http://headburroantfarm.wordpress.com/2008/06/21/sl-machinima-lessons-learnt-3-in-a-series-of-many%e2%80%a6/#comment-1137) and the link to the JIRA in contains that this is soon to be fixed.

Fingers crossed :)

Agreed, it is on the 'things to do' list for SL, however I am sure once you use the function of being able to select the capture region of the screen, you will miss it when not there lol.
