Okay I just wanted to see if using that title would cause the forum to crash.

But, the question is this. Suppose that a worst case scenario happens.. PN or someone releases the ultimate hacked viewer that allows everything to be copied. Prims, animations, scripts (theoretically), just a totally destroying the economy. How would that affect your SL? Would you leave?

I would close up my shops most likely, but other than that, not much of a change to my SL. I'm sure a vast majority of clubs and other sims would close, being income dependant. But there are more than a few that are here just for the fun and would stay open. So that's what I would be doing in SL. Clubbing with those groovy freebie dance moves. Horizon Dance rocks.

It wouldn't mean the end of SL in my opinion. (Besides, aren't there advanced copybot systems already out there?) Piracy has been around for ages now and it hasn't brought down the music industry for instance. In the end there will always be a demand for original content, so I don't think packing up and leaving would be the best move.

I do get scared reading these stories on copybot software though. But in the end I've come to terms with the fact there's very little I can do to protect myself. And I still love creating, which makes it a risk I have to be willing to take.

Nothing beats grilled baby seal. Unless it is poached bald eagle eggs.

Having one's work stolen is not merely a financial loss. It's a personal violation. A lot of people who operate just for fun and not money would probably close down too, because of the emtional devastation of having their works stolen. If theft were to become even more widespread, the only people who would probably remain are those who just create exclusively free full perm content already, and those who don't create and use others' works.

However, I suspect that there are enough tools for theft available right now that most people who really want to steal can get it done. Most SL residents, I'm sure, abstain from stealing not because they can't figure out how, but because they don't want to steal.

About 40% of my estate is commercial land. Of the remaining 60% or so residential, much of it is occupied by shopkeeps: their private homes and development areas.

So, ah, yeah... blowing up the economy would prolly take most or all of Caledon down with it. I suppose I could try heavily catering to residential only, but... that ain't gonna work very well.

I'm not worried, though. By the time I went under, most of the grid would be in big trouble too for the same reasons. I think something will be done before it gets to that point.
