From: someone Dear Second Life Resident,
Earlier this week, we sent out a message to parcel owners with adult content regarding the Maturity rating of their land. You received this message in error. We appreciate the fact that you are already compliant. Please accept our apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
Thank you, Linden Lab Customer Support a public admission of error. I am impressed

Ah.. this explains something. I've been wondering why, as the owner of a private region, I didn't get anything about a sim where one of the parcels certainly has a lot of adult terms in its description. Turns out it did go to the parcel owner, after all ... she and I caught up with each other earlier this evening. I'd forgotten that, in this case, the parcel owner and the owner of the group to which the parcel is set are two different people. Now, can someone explain to me why they told the *parcel owner*, From: someone How can you avoid this messiness and continue to reach your target audience with your listings? Simply comply with the Adult Content Policy by taking one of the following actions, if you have not already done so: - Private region owners, change your region rating to Adult. - If you rent, or if you own Mainland property then move to an Adult region (Zindra or Adult rated private region. - OR Remove any adult-themed content from your parcel description, classified ad and land (whichever is applicable). and missed out the -- to my mind, pretty obvious -- action, "Ask the sim owner to change the sim's rating to Adult," which is what I've just done. And I really don't understand why they didn't send this to the sim owners, too, since we're the only people who can change the ratings and, also, are at risk of ARs if any of our tenants have inappropriate content.

This isn't as bad as my current Comcast exchange:
Letter 1: We're moving Expanded Basic to digital, but we'll give you a free digital box and two free adapters.
Sounds great to me. We have no need for a digital TV, and no desire to pay extra for digital cable, but if they'll give it away, that's fine.
Letter 2: Oops, we goofed, you're already on digital, so you don't get the free box, but we'll still give you the free adapters.
Um, no, we've never had digital, never paid for it, and don't have a digital box.
I'm wondering how long before letter 3 arrives.

From: Couldbe Yue a public admission of error. I am impressed The email was obviously a mistake. I am sure that Linden has been properly chastised by now. If someone new is put in charge of upgrading the forums in the next couple of weeks then that would be a huge tip off.

I do think there is someone new behind the scenes. The swapping of the sim names, the reclaiming of the protected river they gave away and one other thing I can't remember now were done quickly, efficiently and without fuss.
The letter is the most gracious and intelligible I have ever seen out of my three years here (and it is three years today since I stepped into SL.. well mercy me!!).
I think the most surprising thing of all is how easily they could get the goodwill of their customer base back just by doing what they are doing now. They just need to show us more than glimpses.

Yeah I got the message -- twice. Once for each time I received the previous message, presumably. Glad they sent this. It was nicely worded. They need to hire someone specifically to go over their mass mailings with an eye for logic and courtesy. (I'll be waiting for your call, LL )

From: Couldbe Yue a public admission of error. I am impressed I do not think everyone got the apology letter. This is news to me. Maybe they just expected you to pass it on to 10,000 people. Thanks for the head's up.

Maybe they just expected you to pass it on to 10,000 people. Thanks for the head's up. you wouldn't expect everyone to get it. there are still a lot of businesses advertising in mature and pg search so you wouldn't expect them to. Only those who are not in breach of their current policy would get it. I thought the text of the email made that perfectly clear. Obviously not though by the look of your apparent confusion.

Yeah, I guess so. The next wave of apologetic e-mails should include the SLURL of the offending parcel (if such parcel actually exists).
