Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to generate video on the fly and stream it to SL in real or near-real time (in QuickTime or any format SL supports)?

For example, capturing my screen into a QuickTime stream that's shown on a prim, so I can walk somebody thought the steps needed to do something, live?

Here's an old thread on the subject.

Try searching for Darwin Streaming Server, also wirecast

You might try IMing Fremont Cunningham, Jack Digeridoo, and or AW Mars.

Forum-wise, the machinima forum would be the place for the video capture and streaming knowledgeable folks to hang out in.

I've done testing with a videocam, VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) and a Basic (FREE) Helix server (http://www.realnetworks.com/products/evalservers.html). And it works fine.

The setup I use is a Sony videocam hooked up to a Windows PC with firewire. I use a script to feed that stream to VLC which then feeds to the Helix server on a Linux box.

Going with a Darwin server works as well, but I prefer the Helix.

I believe I have seen someone use this Ustream.tv service to broadcast a live video stream into SL. Pretty sure it will work with a webcam or screencast, too.
