Hoping someone might be able to suggest something....

I have security orbs at my home and on my private land, they have a minimum reach i think -of about 30m...is there a product out there for individual homes? Im talking small beach homes not grandiose mansions. Most of my homes already have lockable blinds and doors...however you can still get old residents tp'ing directly into a home or the opportunist just randomly picking a spot and hopping in from a tp...

Its not a huge problem...but once in a while it happens that we get unwanted guests at resorts, and if the people who have access to eject etc are not around...it sucks that a resident cant get rid of them...(I know i can ban them to prevent further incidents.)

Any products out there for small places?

thanks Fai xx

Can you change the distance in the script? I have never seen a security orb, and I presume they do run from scripts.
Don't they have something in them to tell it to: give XX message to any avatar that comes within XX range. If they don't leave in XX seconds then boot em.

Obviously, all that would be in complicated scripty language, of which a do not have a clue, nor can I even read it without going cross eyed.
Maybe you could find the right bit in the script and change the distance. I am sure I have heard somewhere that you can change the amount of time before booting someone, so why not the distance?

I had a similar problem back when I was living in a rental home on group land which I couldn't even ban people from. This lead me to script my own security orb system especially designed for the needs of people that just want to protect their home without annoying anyone else that just happens to be walking or flying by. There's no minimum detection range, only a max range; they get a 15 second warning if they breach the security perimeter and if they don't leave before it expires they get ejected from the land, 2nd breach TPs them home, 3rd TPs them home and bans them from the land for 3 days. Rarely do they come back a 3rd or even 2nd time really so it's quite effective. If you're interested, contact me inworld and I'd be happy to show you a demo.

Faithless, how could you?!

You know exactly where to find a security device that allows you to set the range, AND will only deal with people on your own land, however far the range is set.

I've experimented with and set up a number fo different security orb systems, and every one of them was able to configure the exact radius of effect. None had a minimum that you couldn't reduce with the configuration settings.

My personal pregerence recently is the Omega system. It allows you to set a rectangular area within a parcel as limits for the effect. without necessitating subdividing the parcel further. So you can restrict access to the house and still allow people to walk beside the house.

I will have to put in a plug for hippoSECURE from HippoTech. It's copiable, it does the rectangular area thing, and can network boxes together... so you can define specific areas to have restricted access and share access lists between boxes. And their customer support is top notch, I've always had great experiences with HippoTech.

There is also a system that uses "pads" to alert the system instead of a scanning "radar". So you could have only one room protected or resize the pads to cover 10x10. I think Spank's Specialities is the place that sells them.

It sounds as if just the regular ban is what's really desired. Not sure what the disadvantage would be of adding "Manage parcel ban lists" authority to the residents' role. (But then I'm not a huge fan of security orbs.)

I'm not sure what kind of orb I have, I THINK Omega... anyway. It will allow you to set the perimeter of your property up to 96M as the safe zone. Anyone crosses they get a warning that they will be ___ in ____seconds. In my case, I tp them home after 10. The orb does respect the boundary lines so anyone visiting my neighbors will be safe. I <3 security orbs and hate ban lines so win/win.

get orb you can fix settings in
01-18-2008 10:00
The orb i have lets me set the distance of protection, and it will give the intruder as many seconds as i set it for before they are ejected. I think there are some pretty good orb isn sl. I just hate the ones that put that ugly red line around your property. They don't give anyone a warning so if you are sailing past and hit it you get thrown to who knows where.

I pretty much hate both. Just to kinda clarify about the ban lines: if one uses just the individual-by-individual bans, the lines are visible only to the banned individuals (who presumably did something Very Very Bad to warrant a slot on the ban list). And those kind of bans go all the way to the sky. Most security orbs have an option of putting such bans in effect for persistent intruders. But personally, as far as I'm concerned, intrude away as long as I'm not around--and usually when I am, for that matter. It's not like I leave the plot for the Revolution open on my desk.

Security devices work fine in those situations - provided that the homes are on different parcels with different owners. They only deal with people who are within range AND on/over the right parcel. If the various homes are on land that is owned by the same person/group, then the range needs to be set reasonably accurately, so as not to interfere with people who are allowed to be there.

it is all one parcel...i know i can use ban lines, i already have an orb myself that i know i can alter the distance..but fine tune it to one 20x20 beach hut...hmmm i dont think so lol. The problem is at small resort that i want people to visit and rent homes at...all on one parcel about 6500sq m.

Ive yet to come across a system that can deal with a small space of 20x20...but i see someone made one above...so I'll contact them...and of COURSE pop along to see my devine SIM Owner & Phil :P

all the ones that handle rectangular spaces will deal with your 20x20. hippo, etc.
