Hi everyone, i've been playing SL now for a couple of days and i picked up this notecard from NCI that has notes on how too do things in SL and also a notecard on where too get things from if your under 30 days. The notecard seems too be out of date though as alot of the places don't stock some of the freebies anymore. Does anyone have or know where i can get a updated version of this notecard.
Thanks

Well let me welcome you to SL then. When I first started, I did a search for freebie places and found quite a few good ones. If you do this, you should be able to find everything you could ever want.
If you are in need of particular places... Let me know and I can give you some landmarks when I am in game later.

No, but feel free to check my blog at http://virtual-freebies.blogspot.com for some great freebies. There are many freebie blogs out there. I can tell you that most of the larger stores (Gurl6, Adam-N-Eve, ETD, etc) have new resident packages available for free.

Hi Sasi, welcome to SL. I don't know about an updated version of this notecard - perhaps ask the helper people at NCI?
I do remember that the best freebies I found in the early days were from The Free Dove, including vouchers for free hair for new residents. Be prepared for a lot of lag when you go there - just take your time.
Also, being under 30 days old makes you eligible to collect L$ from money trees, so do a search for those too. Some require payment info, some don't. It's a good way of discovering some interesting places along the way.

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome Well i've checked most the freebie places, free dove, gnubie store, sarah nerds etc. I'm mainly talking about some places that offer free skins, clothing, shapes, shoes etc for under 30 or 60 days. Money trees i'm not really fussed too stand around or sit around for hours on end for a few measly lindens no offence. I have a pretty low attention span that's just not me lol. I'll mention the notecard at NCI and see if anyone has any ideas of a new one. Thanks for the links Honey, i'll have a look at the blog.

Ok. Do a search for Free Skins and Free Shapes. You should find plenty. Heck, my alt is pretty good and I didn't spend a penny on him

Welcome to SL! The freebie blog link that HoneyBear gave you is a good way to find NEW freebies. You may also want to read these blogs: http://fabfree.wordpress.com/http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/http://slondlist.blogspot.com/http://karlascorbal.wordpress.com/The last one is not in English, but it's not much text. The pictures speak well enough! Bookmark the blogs you like, check back a week and you will find loads of stuff. Some of them blog both freebies, dollarbies, cheapies and regular prized items. The slurls take you direct to the shop in SL. Shops move often in SL. I have deleted almost all my landmarks, and use search and slurls instead.

Ummm ... are you thinking of camping? Money trees are different from camping - you just TP in, pick any L$ that are on the tree and move on, or better still, stay and look around a bit - I found some really cool places that way, a lot of them non-commercial. But I am afraid it is still "a few measly lindens", as you put it.

This has been a couple of months ago but I took a girl to LAQROKI and found that they have a free skin, hair and shape package for new residents. I think it's just the one skin so no makeup options and your stuck with caucasian but it is a VERY nice skin.

Re: Money trees. They are a good way to start exploring and seeing beautiful places, as well as pick up a few bucks. I got myself an arsenal of landmarks that I would rotate through to get money. You could pick up quite a bit doing that for an hour or so.
You can get the landmarks from the master money tree center.... used to be in Bravo Bravo but it's Wolfhaven now. Search all for Wolfhaven Money Tree.

First Things First

Cristalle, I'm going to give you some very different newbie advice. Before you go off buying and getting "must haves," do two things. First, get that consumeristic hook out of your back if it's there. I remember reading about all the things I had to buy or acquire in freebie form in newbie guides and thinking "no way!" I had a lot of MU** experience (MU**'s are command driven multi player worlds) and the culture shock just made me say "no way!" Actually, I was right, but not because that's not the way it used to be in 1994. Quite simply, I had a different set of goals. I wanted to make my own clothes. Finding a very easy shirt tutorial and the clothing netting which is available in the Texas Women's University sim (I all ready had GIMP) was great. I also realized I would need to buy some lindens for texture uploads. I bit the bullet. When a helpful oldbie asked me what I wanted, I ended up with a swimmer animation (version 1.0) and also several boxes of sculpties. I found some decent private sandboxes after that. I can recommend a few if this is what you want. The prim torturing charts which you see in many sandboxes have turned out to be another great gift. The other thing I really needed was to learn my way around. Finding this site was again incredibly helpful. http://www.mappanovus.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=83Also learning to work the sliders and any landmarks any one handed me really helped me orient. I guess I wanted to build and walk more than anything else. Everyone though wants something different. What you need to do is put all the advice aside and decide what you want. Do you want to be a builder? Do you want to enjoy combat? Do you want to be a classicly beautiful and forever young human or a less typical human, a child, an old person, or maybe a nonhuman of some type? A lot of what is available in SL is either free or cheap (Land is the exception to this and people who want exquisite human skins also say that skins are very expensive). Figuring out what you want and what you need to get what you want is the hard part. Also read a lot of tutorials and boards. Information even when you don't agree with it is more valuable than stuff.

Hi again guys. Thanks for the links Marianne i'll have a good look over them. It would be very cool if i could live in SL without spending lots of money lol. I've noticed when i type in money trees i either get one where i have too fill in surveys or i tp around too others and i can't find the money too click for the life of me. Yosef, i'll head over too LAQROKI and grab the newbie package, thanks Iyoba *giggle* i think that post should have been referred too me lol, i'm not really a must have kinda person, i'll only buy it if i actually need it etc. I'm not really fussed for building or making clothing i'll leave that too the experts lol. Like i said i have a pretty low attention span so exploring things would be pretty boring too me. I like doing things actively. I've played a few RP games over the years and enjoyed them, i'm not really sure what i'm looking for at the moment. I join Second Life on a whim because i was bored and decided too see what all the fuss was about so too speak. So if anyone can recommend things too do that are not exploring or combat based i'd be extremely grateful. What does everyone else like too do on SL?

Wow.... That's a loaded question! You could ask a hundred people and get 400 answers. I like to Build and Create Things. Check my picks for some of the things that I've done. If you need any help; IM me. Good Luck and Welcome!
