Building platform height and neighborly courtesy

I have an ugly building platform that comes almost to the borders of my 4608m parcel. It's 700m up which I thought would be sparsely populated. But after cranking my draw distance up a little I see I'm surrounded by some nice stores and a garden in the sky.

I'm sure they'd rather not have a big flat area textured with building grids and littered with plywood next door. How high can I go and still comfortably build? If you build on your parcel, where do you do it?

Makes me wonder if there ought to be a fly zone, a building zone, a privacy zone, etc.

The problem with zoning that would be enforcement.. and LL is swamped in that. If I remember correctly, ban lines for group only (I apologize for mine.. it's only my workshop, which has the brains of my shop) go 50m above the ground. I usually say 250m to 400m is a fly zone. That keeps the builds outta the clouds and allows fliers to get above them as well.

When I work on a new shop, I build it at around 500m, since there are oddly enough -fewer- platforms at that level, so I'd be less likely to cause ugly views during a build phase.

700m seems to be the normal sky platform height, either left overs from the old viewers or just habit. If you want privacy, go up another 100m, to 800m.

I do all my building work in the 3000 - 4000 metre altitude range these days. Quiet, very little clutter and very low lag. I can highly recommend it.

That's because 750m used to be considered the maximum build height without issues, right? So what is the new maximum height limit?

I'd have to log in to check, but I am pretty sure my building platform is at 1000 meters.

I don't recall seeing anyone around when I turned my draw distance up. I'm pretty sure there was no one around at that height when I originally rezzed it there. (It was not long after the height limit was raised in the RC, so I don't think many people were building at that height then.)

I have a tiny platform at 500m and my home is set up well above 1000m.

I build in my home at 1000m (using a very old viewer but with a Nicholaz overlay) with no lag or problems.

The water and horizon disappear when I go above 1000m. I usually build at 2000. Even in a public sandbox you rarely get bothered. Actually I would have to say that I have never been bothered at that height.

I finally settled on 1240m, an unlikely number. No one around, and Bree's right, no horizon. I guess I was used to the old way and was afraid to go much higher.

There seems to be a haze layer up here, but that might just be the Windlight settings I was using.

Anyway it's perfect for now and easy enough to go higher if it gets crowded again. Thanks all.
