Can't teleport

I've only used SL for a couple of days.

I went to a sweethearts region, Right clicked on a car and the game crashed.

Since then I was stuck in the region- when I click teleport (Any any area) the progress line goes about half way when I get a message that says I've been logged out.

I was stuck in that area for quite a while, and even logged in using a different computer. Same problem.

I went to the log in screen when you first start the application, went to preferences and chose to start the sim at my home location.

The game does start at my home location (The area just after the tutorial), but now I'm also stuck there and can't teleport anywhere for the same issue.

I am thinking I'll have to abandon my avatar and just create a new one.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Forums, and to SL.

It's odd that I've seen reports like this posted here, but I don't think I've ever seen anybody say: "Aha! That fixed it!"

I always advise rebooting all the network equipment from the client computer all the way to the ISP's wall-jack. I don't think anybody has ever said that this worked, but I don't think anybody has ever said that it didn't.

(Hmmm... maybe they can never get online again? )

I'm thinking it might be in my profile somewhere, because my wife's avatar works just fine!

Oh, well what's odd about that is the problem occurred on another computer, too, and most troublesome avatar-specific stuff is stored on the local computer (that's why you'll see lots of advice to "clear cache and relog" or to delete the whole SecondLife settings folder under Application Data or wherever the OS sticks it).

I suppose it's possible that there's some bit of Inventory (which is stored on the servers) that's somehow interfering with teleports... or possibly an attachment. Might be worth trying to teleport with all attachments removed.

But hopefully the support ticket will resolve it for you. Or perhaps someone else will have a suggestion.

Ok things are really weird.

I created a new account, Zerock Parx and the problem continues.

Must be the client so I uninstalled it, deleted all second life folders and even searched through regedit to be sure everything was gone.

I re-downloaded the client and installed.

Dang! I still can't teleport.

They still haven't picked up my support ticket

Which second life folders did you delete? The ones in the program files folder or the ones where your cache, settings.xml file, etc. are stored?

The default SL install under WinXP puts that folder at C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\SecondLife .

What seems to help me teleport when I am having issues is to turn the DRAW DISTANCE down all the way, then teleport. Seems to work immediately afterwards. Welcome to SL !

Sounds funny, but...strip. Take everything off...go to your inventory, type the word worn in and take every silly thing off. Then try to tp. I'd bet money you can tp...altho a little shrinkage may result in bein so nakie. Another had this problem and it was something there were wearing. Dont remember what, but try it out. Can hurt.

This is what I've done so far:

1. Undeleted the client
2. Deleted Cache folder from my C:\Documents and settings\... folder
3. Made sure there wasn't anything left in the registry using Regedit
4. Redownloaded the client from SL downloads and re-installed the app.

Still can't teleport.

5. Downloaded and installed updated sound and video drivers.

Still no good

6. Tried different property configurations with the video and ethernet cards.

Still nodda.

7. Opened the preferences for the SL client, turned off all options (Sound, chat, multimedia- everything)
8. Stripped him naked.

Still no-go.

I tried it again on my wife's computer - My avatar is able to teleport with hers now, so it seems it's computer dependent.

Well count this one as *****SOLVED*****

This is so stupid I'm almost embarrassed, because I should have tried this long before spending hours doing everything else.

I'm running Peerguardian 2 (Phoenix labs), a Peer to peer IP blocking software, and automatically starts at boot.

I close that application and it works perfectly. While it's running the teleport progress line only creeps along- but I can even close PG2 during teleport and immediately completes the transfer.

If anyone has this problem in the future, make SURE you aren't running any IP masking/hiding software.
