Havok4: testing and walk question

I _think_ I may be having an issue with AO walks after the server update. It seems to me that the ratio of animation stride to actual ground covered has changed a bit, so that some walks look a bit unreal.

I'm also encountering many hesitations while walking, either using default walk or AO walk, sort of like a mini-sim crossing. I've tried this on several sims, with 3 different avatars. Nothing has changed on my system.

So, I have two questions:

1. Is anyone else seeing this?

2. Does anyone know if there is an old Havok server somewhere where we can go to test if an issue Havok4 related, or just our own system's foibles?

I thought all the sims got upgraded already.

Sidewinder stated that some H1 sims would be kept on the Beta grid. That's about it.

Beta grid would be fine, Darien. Any idea how to find them?

All of the sims should have been updated.. if one hasn't, you can be sure that it'll get changed sometime soon, since LL wants everything at least messed up at a constant rate grid-wide. (Discluding Beta)

I do believe movement speeds and gravity has changed a bit for H4 sims... I know stairs are bouncier now. (^_^)

Having an avatar that's 3'11" (4'4" in my favorite shoes) means always having walk animation problems. The default it TOO spazzy and most of the walks I found for my AO look more like gliding. I did finally find a nice one that was interestingly meant for a cyborg AV. It's a matter of finding one that's realistic enough for what you want. (^_^)

I started by buying a couple AOs first, then I got a blank ZHAOII and found out how to load it with animations from my inventory. That way I can have exactly what I want plus I can add and remove things on the fly with the notecards. (^_^)y

Immy, good point, I should have mentioned that the avatar I notice this most on is 5'8" in height. I'd like to find an H1 sim and play with walks and avatar heights/mass.

I actually noticed this morning that I seem to be covering more ground, a little faster than previously.

Actually, I'm not sure, when I was there last week, most all of them were still H1, with only a few labeled H4/Mono. It may still be that way.

it sounds more connection related than anything..maybe mess with the bandwidth and see if that helps.

I've noticed my walk seems different since H4 came in. My AV is about 6', but that's on the small side for a male AV, and it's a male walk, so it could be that AVs smaller than average that AO's are presumably designed for are having different behaviour.

walking up close to a 'log' (guess it could be any prim object) like touching it, stand still and watch what happens, my avatar shakes and then starts to drift away.

H4 is a change to the physics of the viewer.....this was explained in the blog....and certain things would be slightly altered/affected. You might want to scroll thru the latest blog topics on the release of Havoc4 as it was all there.
I've noticed some slight hiccups in walking, but not much. The only thing that has been really obvious is (and this was mentioned in the blog about H4) that I cannot walk up certain steps if they are above a certain height now. Again, this is the physics as a result of the changes that H4 brings. It also will effect the way some scripts are going to work if they are physical movement items.....like vehicles....swim animations. It does also mention that walking/running eill be different with H4. I believe it states in the blog, that builders/creators should report on issues they experience.

But....there again...check the blog. All this was covered.

Thanks, Milla. I read the Blog and, actually, wiki .... these issues don't relate to the "climbing up stairs" issue, this is just while walking. I did see some things that *might* imply a difference in speed in walking, but it wsan't at all conclusive, since that was in some prerelease info, and was just a mention.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is viewer related. I am using Nicholaz' be-V viewer, and don't have time right now to download the released one. Other folks who think you may see this, are you on Nick's viewer?

Be-V is based on a pretty old codebase now.

I'm using the new 1.19.1.4 official viewer. The effect on walking is slight, but noticeable. I've also seen the stair issue in a couple of places.

And I'd read the blog too, but didn't see anything that related to the walking issue..

I though I saw something like this last night Nika. I was not on for that long and I was using the latest client on a mac. I'll check it out tonight on my desktop.

Go here and download the beta viewer:

http://secondlife.com/community/downloads-optional.php

It will log you into the beta grid rather than the main grid. :)

On the strength of the comments here, I've gone ahead and opened a bug:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2062

I would sure appreciate it if others on this thread would add comments giving their experience. Otherwise the Havok team will probably think I'm hallucinating.

To comment or vote:
-- Use the link above.

-- Click the small "login" button in the upper right. Use your normal Second Life login.

-- On the menu bar on the left, a little more than halfway down, you will see a link to "Comment"

-- If you wish to vote, the "Vote" link is at the bottom of that menu bar.

Could this part be related to the following JIRA:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2005

SIM/Physics FPS and time dilation dropping dramatically in cycles, while walking it looks like you are stuck or walking through gelatine. If so, please vote on it :-)
