I have somehow saved makeup on my female av that I want to change. When I try to edit, it says I do not have permission. Anybody know what I've done to save this look and better yet, how to delete it without changing my shape appearance? Thanks for any tips.

Jagger,
You've probably put on a custom skin, which is No Mod.
There are two kinds of skin in SL...two and a half, really.
The first is the default skin, that you can adjust with the Appearance sliders The second is a fully painted-on custom skin. You can't adjust this, but the detail is generally much better than you can get with the default skin. The hybrid is a custom skin that's semi-transparent, allowing you a limited amount of adjustment with the sliders.
The solution is to find a different skin in your inventory or library, and wear it instead of the custom skin you've got on now.

Also, keep in mind that your "shape" is different than your "skin." When editing appearance, be sure that you're using a Shape (the symbol in your inventory looks like a little man in a brown box) that you can modify. A Skin goes OVER the shape like a wrapper on a candy bar and looks like a little man without a brown box in your inventory. Like Lindal said, this too can be modifiable or not, depending on the creator's choice. This Skin is what shows your makeup and is totally separate from your shape, which is the framework of your avatar.
