denied access

Hi, can anyone share reasons why I would be denied access to a Public area? I was just recently denied access to a Public beach where I enjoy spending time.
Did I overstay my welcome? Has someone filed a grievance, and if so, does SL make you aware, or just put a "access block" in your data base?
I am ALWAYS curtious, friendly and respectful to everyone I meet in SL, and can't imagine why I am not allowed on a PG beach?
Could this be a technical issue where possible viewer upgrades are needed or some other technical issue I have not been made aware of?
Thanks in advance for direction, hope to see you in-life sometime.

Hi Trez, what does the access message say? If you're banned by name you'll get a different message than if for some reason they've limited access to a group.

Assuming you can get within touch distance of the parcel, you can also right-click on the ground of the parcel, choose "About Land...", and look at the "Access" tab. If Public Access is unchecked, perhaps the owner reserved the parcel for a private party or something temporary.

If, on the other hand, your name appears on the Banned Residents list, somebody (or some script) added you explicitly--somewhere. Many public venues share banlists by various means, BanLink being perhaps the best known.

Thanks for both replies and suggestions. Don't have access to getting into world at the moment, so don't remember exactly what the message says, but maybe something like "we're sorry, but you don't have access to this area" or something like that, and it happens during the teleport attempt... Not a member of any groups!
Left in-world last night, actually logged out while at this particular beach, and when I attempted log in this AM, automatically sent me back to my previous location from last night, (prior to ending at the beach), and then this AM, started disallowing me access to the beach....A little confusing, sorry.
Will an owner do a "sweep" of some sort to identify anyone who might be stayng overnight, whether intentional or not, and once identified, block the AV from re-entering due to the appearance of loitering?
Thanks again for your insight, just trying to avoid being locked out of any other Public areas.

If you're not age verified, that might explain it. You will be denied access to adult venues, as part of the new adult content policy. You're sure it's a PG area?

It might be that the sim was just closed off for some reason as well. I think I got a 'denied' message too when a sim was simply closed off to the general public from one day to the next.

You get a message like that if the sim has gone off-line/had settings change that would now disallow you (adult, age-verify, group access only, no public access, blocking no pay information people, etc.).

Could be the sim is off-line. Might still look ok on map, or it might look red, and/or actually say off-line.

I believe you get a different message, like "sim is full", if it is full, though similar result of trying to teleport and not being able to get there.

Trez, the only Public Areas in SL are on Linden Land. If the land is owned by a Resident then, even if it has the appearance of a public area - a plaza for example, it's up to the owner whether or not anyone is allowed in. As Anya pointed out - it may have been a temporary ban for a party or something similar.

It's not anything that will go on your record with LL, so don't worry. The best of us have been banned from SOMEONE's land [blush].

If you haven't done anything to get yourself banned (and the parcel owner doesn't freak out and ban people for no apparent reason) then it's likely public access has been blocked for some reason. Maybe they're remodeling, or the owner decided not to keep it open to the public.

If there is a group dedicated to that beach, there may be an announcement there about the status, or you could IM the owner to see what the deal is.

Next time, note the complete message, that'll help us identifying the problem. Sometimes SL says "Your last location is currently not available" (even though it most of the time is) and drops you off at some other place you visited.

Aside from that, if you have indeed been denied access and it wasn't just a glitch, asking the owner of the parcel often helps. And yes, I can come up with a number of things that would get you banned from a PG beach. ;)

Man, lots of helpful suggestions and insight from all... Thanks So Much!

After work, 6pm EST, will get back inworld and attempt to teleport back to the beach. I hope it's no big deal to give the name, it's Bora Bora, and I have been visiting for months, meeting friends and hanging out..
Actually found by searching "Public Beaches", so while owned by a resident, (I think) has always been open to teleport,,,,,,and is PG! or at least has been?
I do realize SIM status can/could change at any time... But I am age and account(?) verified and have not been denied access to any SIM visited, adult, mature etc..

There has been occasions where, while at this particular beach, a warning of sorts will pop up and tell me that the area is using a different, like 3-D viewer or something than I guess the one I am using, but allows me to continue anyway?

Def could have been a technical issue outside of anything I have experienced so far?

I will look for the "Exact" access message and post later tonight..Likewise, I will post if everything is copacetic.

Everyone have a great day, and again, thanks for your time and outstanding assistance!

It looks like it is set to only allow access to residents on the access list.

Technically, there is little to no "public" space in SL. Only Infohubs, Welcome areas, and Linden protected land qualifies as actual public space. (^_^)

Any and all other spaces in SL are privately owned by residences and can be used for public attendance and events under the allowance of the land owner. And, if the land owner as much as doesn't like your face, consider yourself banned from that place an look for one of the other thousands of places to visit. (^_^)y

I tp'd to Bora Bora a while ago without any problems. I checked the list of banned avs and your name is not there, Trez. :) It may have been a technical problem, or perhaps the sim owner needed quite time to work on a build/script and unchecked "Allow Public Access" for a while. Anyway - enjoy!

Hi again to all who helped this noob figure out,,,,it wasn't a real problem after all! The bottom line is, the owner WAS completely remodling Bora Bora, and I kinda freaked!
So I was able to TP in last night, only to see a "under construction" sign, and that made me feel like an idiot,,,which I try hard not to be :-)
The experience was mostly positive though, caused me to explore outside a familiar SIM, (there ARE 1000's of other places to explore/Imnotgoingsideways:) and also to realize there are a lot of helpful folks behind those crazy AV names...
Sorry this noob took up your time, but I really appreciate it...
IM anytime, hope to see you around / Trez

Just a point of clarification here. When you log out of SL, your avatar doesn't remain in your last location. You vanish completely. So there is no "staying overnight" or "loitering" to worry about.

If you stay logged on, and just minimize the SL window, then your avatar goes "Away from Keyboard" and slumps over, the "AFK Napping" animation. If you are AFK with no activity for about 30 minutes (or whatever you have set that to in Preferences) you will be automatically logged out.

Sometimes that (error message) happens if the sim is having trouble. You are not banned unless you are on the ban list - as Qie explained.

I have "Go AFK" disabled and once left the puter for a moment; got distracted and forgot I was still logged in. I came back four or five hours later to find myself still sitting where I'd left me, blinking away. A quick check of the chat reassured me that no one had tried to talk to me. :)
