Hello,

I know how to take a snapshot of a scene in SL, and I know how to save it to my C-drive.

I'd like to be able to edit it (e.g. crop it to the best size, improve brightness & contrast, before loading it back into SL as a 'texture' (which costs L$10).

The file format on my C-drive is .png, and I cant seem to edit it!

Can anyone advise please ?

(I use MS windows Vista)

Hi Oxy....welcome~!

Firstly....you need a photo editing program like photoshop or gimp. If you've got any kind of image uploading software for a camera or printer.....you probably have an editing option with that. If not.....gimp is a freebie download.

From there......well......it's a matter of learning the program. If you become a flickr member there's tons of groups that do tutorials and offer hints and tips to good photo editing. Many many SL folks post images on flickr so it can be a great place to get to know other shutterbugs and artists.

In the snapshot window roughly in the middle there are two buttons Size and Format. Under format you should be able to change it to jpg or bmp and then you can edit it in more built-in Windows programs if you don't need anything as heavy duty as GIMP or Photoshop.

If you're like me, you can see something like that every day and still not know it's there.

also make sure you're saving directly to the hard drive and not to inventory first... if you goes to inventory first, you're effectively paying for it twice. (and there are options for high resolution snapshots(not sure if this helps or not), quiet snapshots to disk (remove annoying camera noise when saving to disk), and compress snapshots to disk (not sure if this does anything currently either). all under the advanced menu (ctrl+alt+d if you don't see it next to the help menu)

If you do want to continue to save them in png format, a little bit of internet searching will give you a few freeware applications that you can use to edit them.

If you have Photoshop, you can save and edit as PNG. I do all the time.
