The only demonstration I've seen was using some sort of client/server app that hosted the picture like a remote video to the phone. From the way it was described, it took too much hardware and was rife with limitations. (>_<;)

To me, even something as simple as Day Oh's TRim would be killer. (^_^)y

I've dabbled with Ajaxlife a bit. Text only and still a bit limited at that, but could be useful if you wanted to pop on and send a couple of IMs for example. No choice of where to log in, but as I remember it uses your last location. One thing to be careful of for text only clients, and I can't remember how Ajaxlife handled it, is that some don't bake textures so you might appear naked even if fully clothed on last logout.

Edited to add: 9 times out of 10 I'm replying to forum threads on my iPod Touch (iPhone without the phone), like I am now.

AjaxLife service has been terminated until Linden Lab repair Teen Grid signups, which have been broken for eighteen months out of the last twenty-four. See WEB-734.

Same here=). I love my itouch but it has it's limitations. No Flash is going to be no fun once the new secondlife.com is up. I really doubt a full client could run on it. But a text client would be great. I was really hoping the new Slim would help, but text over Vivox... Doubtful.

If someone were to make an SL iphone app could they charge for it? Or would some licensing issue prevent that? I don't think you could get any kind of 3d client on the iphone. Too underpowered and getting all the texture data over 3G would be slow.

If you make app you can sell it on itunes where, i believe, you make 70% of sales.

Completely unsure about licensing, except that the vivox slim method probably is under license. This may be the reason LL fights us so much about using a standard chat system(XXPM). To keep us from creating plugins/apps like this.

<delete> Ajaxlife logs into the main grid and still works for me. It was, however, developed by a teen. </delete>

Edit: I stand corrected, it now no longer works.

Marginally off-topic, but here's something cool about the second gen Touch. It has voice input capabilities.

I bought a set of iPhone earphones with the inline mic, installed the free Fring app, hooked it up to my Skype account with the unlimited Skype Out plan (8 USD for 3 months) and I can make outbound voice calls to any landline or cell phone in the US or Canada whenever I'm in an available wifi hotspot.

Poo. Volle doesn't support iPhone. Back to the drawing board.

Yea. Vollee kept saying in their forums that an iphone version was being worked on. After that they were silent about it for over 7 months. What happened?
I was useing ajaxlife on my iPhone for about 2 months. It was fine when it worked, but was offline most of the time. Now it's offline indefinitly.

mmm That is interesting. Assuming most VOIP services are similar...I wonder if someday we will be able to tap into Vivox/SLim the same way.
