There is a bug with teleporting to high altitudes that will have your feet below the surface of the prim you land on. Other than that, get new animations for your AO. Some animations will put you below ground because of your avatar size.

Sit on an object and stand up. Your feet will be back to normal.

This usually happens to me on ground level when I am crossing into another sim.
And the other time this happens to me is when I made prim shoes.
I don't know why. I figure its issue with something within SL. I have no clue how to fix it.
Wish I did.
Another time it happen when I was walking across a build I had made when I was very new.
I accidentally had clicked the wrong section in edit I think I made the object physical and didn't know it and kept sinking through the prims.

Prims if worn on the avatar automatically become phantom, so maybe that was what you were seeing then - your avatar still standing on his feet, but the soles of the prim shoes sinking into the ground.

hmmm
then how come when making shoes without using the shoe base doesn't cause the shoes to sink (or appear to sink) into the ground.

I need to fiddle with this LOL
never thought about the prims being phantom, being most shoes are done with a shoebase which keeps one;s feet above the ground

near sim borders can often do that as well as extra large prims used for ground.

I don't make shoes, but I wear them, and in my experience, not wearing the shoe base *does* cause the shoes to sink into the ground - the shoe base raises my avatar off the ground so that the shoes don't sink into the ground (as much).

weird

for me when I forget to put the shoebase on it just makes my shoe go above my foot and my foot to stick out of the bottom of the shoe all weird looking

must be the style of shoe maybe

still have not played around with this yet but plan to eventually

I have the same issue, everything was fine until havoc came along. If i take off shoebase and shoes im still in the ground, the old sit on a prim trick doesnt seem to fix it either, also i see other avatars around me also sunk into the ground.
