Is the Second Life medium - the SL world, the forums, the blogs, all that makes the Second Life experience so compelling, actually "real life", albeit with a twist?
For example, are the relationships in Second Life really real? And can you, for example, meet someone online in SL, then meet them in RL, marry them in RL, and then divorce them via SL using IM, as if it was Real Life?

It's as real as you let it be. There are a ton of people that have higher regard for their SL friends than some of the RL people actually physically interracting with them.
Then there are people like me who have SL friendships that don't extend beyond SL in ANY form...as in we only know about what each one has going on in SL. I'd probably be friends with these people IRL if I was around them IRL but we find it pointless to extend beyond SL since we'll most likely never meet.

I met my SL partner in SL, then met him in RL and well now we are married in RL
does that answer the question?
as for the divorce part, no, divorce needs the legal court ruling to be a legal divorce

For me, sl is as real as I let it be but not a replacement for rl. I think your example could be possible... low class and silly but possible. .d

If you are crazy, yeah , go ahead. Make a date and see what you end up with in Real Life. I am not being cynical but being sensible. And NO - Secondlife is NOT like real life - at least, I don't think so. I work hard in real life and I enjoy my real life - sometimes I think my Real Life is BETTER. SL - it's just a different way to meet people, have a bit of fun and be a little different. My Real personality is a wilder one than my Secondlife personality so I am interested in seeing how I behave when I have commitments or expectations placed upon me in Secondlife that I don't have in Real. I have also gone through a nasty break-up and "divorce" in SL and the divvying up of property and resources was conflicting and intense. I saw my "ex" just the other day and we had a great time recalling our split on a computer screen. BUT I never confuse SL with Real. Which is why I am going off line now - to get some REAL work done and stop yabbering on about my Lycanthrope ex-partner!

This forum isn't for general discussion; there are many Resident Sites where this discussion is appropriate - Resident Answers is for Resident-to-Resident help. I'll close this thread...
