....right?
Because, that would could be the only reason why so much of the new Zindra continent has their roads *ON THE SIM BORDERS*.
I mean, someone would really have to missed that day in class to think that vehicles could be used literally up against a sim border the ENTIRE length...unless of course the border crossings were fixed.
Right?
Somebody?
(Anybody?)

I didn't notice that, but I did notice some retro looking teal and brown transparent thingawhatsits down the middle of the roads that would retract when I passed them. They piqued my interest because in a clean futuristic world there would be doodads like that I wouldn't understand. Maybe their real function is to keep you from running your car into the underground between sims. or slowing you down between sims if you're on foot (or tentacle or whatever).

Oh, it can be done just fine. They just didn't DO IT.
I've built plenty of roads that straddle a sim border, and they work fine. Gave copious info here in the forums on how to make it work.
Guess the Moles were asleep in class those days, and never bothered to read up on the topic.

I have to say, I took a look at those partition things - they are sooo lame. They look stupid and the whole idea is stupid. Whatever mole came up with that idea needs a shovelling.

I liked "Abnor"'s approach to the problem. Rather than making a scripted popup sensor driven thing every 10m, he just put up a divider.. just like any RL Department of Transportation would. Personally though, I agree, it is exceptionally poor planning, when they could have simple moved the roads over and down so that the entire road section was on the same sim. Left Turns are super dangerous now, involving 2, and possibly even 3 region crossings... more if you miss the turn and have to do a 3-point correction. But Linden Lab, and "Good Planning" are not precisely synonymous.

Anyone care to build an ark?

A friend and I were walking around Mosh tonight (on Zindra) and crossed the road and both got snared in the mod blue and brown retro pattern across its middle.
When we finally made it to the other side/sim, we looked back and saw that Mosh had dropped into the sea. Disappeared off the mini-map and all.
Which led us to suspect the whole point of Zindra was to round up perverts like us and drown us in the sea.

Mmm I noticed the roads on the edges and thought it was going to be tricky. But I found myself dipping into the underground constantly, even when not walking or flying on a road.
Perhaps they will just shift the whole map a few metres north and west a bit, and make the intersections not fit with the edges....
A suitable place, an Adult continent, where we can say "Yes, the earth moved for me... "

I fell through the roads many times on foot during my brief visit.

Here's a sim-edge road that works fine. Rutgers University: the RUCE 1 through RUCE 4 sims. The street intersection near the center of that pic is right on top of a 4-sim intersection, centered on the middle of that intersection. The 4 roads leading away from that intersection are each bisected lengthwise by the border of two sims. The sim farthest away also has two road sections that loop that sim just inside the sim edge, while the far sim on the right also has two road sections that loop it's other two sides, inside the sim edge. I built those roads the right way, with extra prims that extend from one sim into the next to ensure the handoff is always smooth as you cross between sims. I drove an SL "Nissan Sentra" at max speed all over that road system, and it never once glitched on me. So it can be done. The Moles didn't even try to test their roads, let alone use known "best practices" to build them.

Blue hell is still a very real place... It eats your vehicles and freezes you in a dark and scary place. (>_<

I got stuck twice on a sim border in Zindra - I could even grab my av on the scooter and move it all but could not actually stop spinning in some invisible whirlpool. Once on land, once in some blue space where I could see nothing around me but blue.
I had to relog both times. The Gov was kind enough to return my scooter. *blush*

Saw no difference in the handling of border crossings when i visited the new continent last night. The city of sin was laggy as hell and unimpressive in build. Am curious if the terrain can be edited after purchase? Also curious if what you see at the sim edge (where you know there will be more land later) will remain as is or have major upheaval when new sims added later.
