This may sound like an easy question, but can some one tell me how to create a group joiner for my shop, or at least point me in the right direction? I have been looking around the forums, but I'm not having any luck finding the info I'm looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Try one of the content creation forums:

/294/1.html

As a side note - I advise a sign that people can click to join the group rather than spamming folks with an automatic group join request just cuz they stopped by.

That is more of what I'm looking for. Just something to place by my shop, so people can join my group if they want. I'm just not sure what I need to do to in order to have it work.

Try this : http://www.subscribeomatic.com/

A lot of shops use this system and it seems easy enough to use.

Yes that is the kind I use also ;) and people actually have thanked me for having that kind of group joiner lol they said it was nice that they could decide instead of it bugging them. For one of my groups I customed a sign of my group logo that had click to join on it so it wasnt just the generic sign ;) Works great!

Yes I much prefer the subscribe-o-matic to joining a group and having it take up space. I'm happy when I tp into a store and see they have a subscribe-o-matic. I always touch it :-)

I'm just the opposite.. If I find a place that I love and has great stuff, I WANT their group in my list. Every single time I click one of those "click here to join our group" signs, and it turns out to be a non-group mailing list (because apparently store owners dont know the difference), my removal from that list follows immediately. I hate them. I can have 100 true groups on the Meerkat viewer so there's no point at all for me.

I use the hippo one, and love it!
I love that it is easy to use, and you can even send notices from the website.

I used to use subscribe o matic, then switched when I got too many people for my group size, THEN they decided to do the 500 size as free (which I was just running over, so meh)

If all you need is a simple group joiner, I can send you an open source script for it. You just put the script into a prim, set the prim to group, and when people click on it a link appears in open chat, they click the link and the group opens up and they click join. Very easy. You can only use it in your shop tho, as it will prompt them to join the group the prim is set to. (In a mall or satellite, your prim would be set to that group). I will log in and send it to you, if you want it you can use it :)

Thanks Ralektra,
This sounds a bit more of what I'm looking for. I just want to be able to place a prim out at my shop (a very small shop, as I'm just getting started), that will invite people who chick on it, to join my group. I have seen set ups much like the one described above, and they seem to work pretty well. My only concern is having it harass everyone that comes near it. I am setting up in a new mall, and there will be other shops around my booth. I do not want to encroach on my neighbors clients. Is there a way to set the proximity to something like one meter? If I place it next to the doorway, with the proximity very low, it shouldn't become a nuisance to other businesses.

I sent you the script, and don't worry:) Mine says clearly 'click here to join our group' and they have to actually click on it to get the link to join. Personally I don't have any greeters, spammers, auto group joiners, auto note cards etc., I don't like them when I shop and so I don't use them.

For a while I had a greeter, which I chose because it would only greet an av once, and could detect when the same av walked by again and didn't greet them. Then one day I was upstairs from my shop when I sent out a notice to one of the freebie groups, and suddenly I realized that when a lot of people come in, even though it greets each only once, it's still spamming hehe, so I pulled it.

Thanks for the script Ralektra.
Just so I'm clear, this works by me placing the script into a prim, texture the prim with a message "click here to join", then a message shows up in the local chat with a link to join, correct?

What is a Meerkat viewer?

It's the test viewer from OpenMetaverse..
http://openmv.org/20080906/open-metaverse-foundation-announces-new-second-life-viewer
http://www.meerkatviewer.org/

Not sure why the meerkat page doesnt open up, maybe they're working on it..dunno.
Been using it for a good while now. Is easy on the system, lotta cool options, etc... and yeah it gives you 100 group slots instead of 25.

also if using the one that ralektra is speaking of, the group has to be open to join (it can not be a join by invite only)

basically what the script is doing, is giving them a link that will open your group info window, which they then join the group themselves. (It saves them the searching for the group)

I dled the Meerkat viewer but it still won't let me join more than 25 groups. What do I need to do?

*desperately needs more group slots*

Yeah, I am a bit confused on this one. Right now, I cannot get to the site to download it, but I thought the group limit was a server side issue and not a client thing, so I don't understand how a viewer can make any difference on that.

Correct :)

and make sure you set the prim to group (it automatically gets the group id etc when it is set to group)

just sayin cause back when I first got it, I spent days trying to figure out how to get the group id number, then found out that all I had to do was set the prim to group.

here's the script
04-12-2009 18:32
default
{
touch_start(integer t)
{
//string groupID =llList2String(llGetObjectDetails(llGetKey(), [OBJECT_GROUP]), 0);
integer i;
for(i = 0; i < t; i++)
{
llInstantMessage(llDetectedKey(i), "Join my group . Click the link in local chat to join: secondlife:///app/group/cd5d9f85-607e-b143-5b70-1e0bcad6110b/about";);
}
}
}

Insert your own group key, natch.

Sorry, but I'm a little confused as to what/where I insert my info into the code. And do I just place the notecard into the prim, or is there some other way to apply the code?
Thanks again everybody.

I figured out how and where to insert the code, but I'm still a bit fuzzy about where in the code I insert my group info. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
