I noticed in mari's snapzilla pics in her sig, it looks like she is sitting in a classroom

are there actually classrooms for kids? I would sooo love to build something like that and be a teacher (teach SL related stuff) to kid avatars in a real classroom setting

that would be so fun...

anyone know of any places I can check out and maybe gather some info, or some ppl who do this that might be able to assist me in the ins and outs and such

*oh something else that would be fun is to have a classroom setting, but not restricted to just kids, adults could come too*

or maybe 2 different classes one for kids one for adults
all classes would be related to SL though, things like basic building, and clothes making etc

I know there are classes out there, but are they in a classroom setting?

I admin at Hillcrest College, which is an adult themed college rp sim. We hold classes (in a classroom), have sports teams, sororities, college style parties, and all kinds of other stuff.

You might enjoy it. :)

thank you very much, appreciate it

will try to check it out when I get back from my appointment (which is at 2:30SL time... I know if I log in now, I will lose track of time which is not good given the situation)

SL schools

There are SL roleplay schools like Brazzy Elementary and High School. There is also an elementary school called HKE, HardKnock Elementary started almost 2 yrs ago.
Its a lotta fun, I've been a student and a teacher and both are rewarding!

cool so they are out there

wonder what it would take to make one, and of course have folks attend

wonder if I have the time to devote to such an undertaking

*my problem with SL is I want to do more than my time will allow*

GQ Start has a classroom. NCI does, too.

Not quite what you were imagining, I think...these are used to teach actual classes about SL. But I point to them as evidence that classrooms can be built in SL (seats, a stage, a podium, a way to project visuals, etc...and that such classrooms are used, to teach a wide variety of subjects.

I took dat yesterday in class at HardKnock Elementary, which is held M-W-F in the Leden sim. Another progran, 3H, which is a more free-form/artistic program for kids is held T-TH. It's closed to class members during classtime, but you might be able to peek about in the offdays and hours. the end of school graduation is comin' up, too. :-)

It's really well done IMO, and very full featured. Go Pathers!

Look for an editorial this week in the Metaverse Messenger about HKE and stuff, BTW

Mari

P.S.: Does anyone on dis thread happen to know of anything like it for teen RP? I have a good RL/SL friend who has wanted to find some for some time, and largely struck out. I had suggested Kindly to her, but it seems to be pretty quiet nowadays.

I suspect Jill Caldera, the principal of HKE, would love to hear from ya if you'd want to join the HKE faculty -- dat might save ya some time an stuff. ;-)

thanks all

I will try to get ahold of jill, thanks mari

lindal I was referring to a setting that resembles a RL classroom with desks, chalk board, stuff like that (more elementary and high school feel, than a college feel) not huge open air with stage etc

I have been tossing the idea around for awhile, of having a classroom that I could give classes on basic SL stuff, like understanding the building tools and such, and the way it would work is it would be a set # of classes that progressively get more advanced, and then ppl would have a final project then graduate (more for RP than any actual certification) heh, and of course learning is good too

heck I even thought about what would it be like to have a school with multiple classrooms with teachers teaching different subjects (like one would be building another would be clothing creations, etc)
and the building would be like a school, with the lockers, and hallways, and classrooms....

ah well...

You, or anyone else interested in teaching, can feel free to IM me in world. I am currently setting up campus right now and plan on having it all up and ready on the 10th. Currently there is I and one other instructor. I will be teaching RL training on various things while the other is focused on SL.

Right now I have a temporary building set up for classes as construction is going on but I plan on the 10th being the grand opening.

Please message me - Landon Rozenberg. I of course will have some standards that have to be met but for the most part as we are just getting going I am open to allowing any reasonable class as long as you can demonstrate your material and knowledge are sufficient in the subject you are proposing.

Teaching
05-06-2008 18:26
Rhaorth, I am an Sl kid who runs a weekly kids radio show live in Second Life every friday. I am also one of the recruiters and representatives for Second Life Children when time allots, please contact me in world to discuss your idea and thoughts. Or you can tune into the show this Friday, Look for the Milk N Kookies in world somewhere to learn a bit more.

Reading your profile, I see you have learned quite a bit of skills in SL, my first thoughts are maybe you could do a weekly teaching on our show?

Any thoughts?
