Club Etiquette?

Hey, Y'all!

This past weekend I discovered how much I like clubs and dancing. In the month I've spent so far in SL, I've inched into a couple of clubs, but I was too shy to venture onto the floors 'cause I thought I didn't have the moves (I had no clue about the dance balls.)

Anyway, through the encouragement of a very cool guy I met the other day, I danced in public for the first time and had an awesome time.

I contributed to tips for the DJ and to the club owner. I put in some modest bucks into the sploders (and won big twice.) Is there anything that I missed other than saying good night and thanks when I left? I know that I'm not obligated to tip but I don't want to gain a rep as a mooch and I don't mind paying for an evening of fun at a club.

Another question is about dancing--is there a way to switch from using the moves supplied in teh dance ball on the floor to using your own dance animations? I tried it a couple of times last night but they didn't work. I was wondering if I needed to attach them to a HUD in order for them to work. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you did a wonderful job of taking care of the people taking care of you :)

As to your own dances, you can get a free dance hud at many places, and with the help of someone who has done it (and yes, I'll volunteer), you can buy dances you like to put in it, and then you're all set!

Congrats on entering the club scene :)

If you wanna use your own dances without a HUD or anything, first you wanna make sure that the ones from the danceball are stopped. All good danceballs have a 'stop' option.

This makes sure their dance won't take priority over yours.

Then just double click your dance, and hit 'play in world' in the little window that pops up.

Tada!

That's how I do it personally.. I only use maybe 3/4 dances so it's perfect for me.

Also make sure any AO you have is off at the time, those can override some dances too.

I just buy dances and put them in my inventory instead of putzing about with HUDs.
To use one, I just right-click on it to make it appear on my screen and then run it "in world" for however long I want to dance that one. It's a few extra clicks but really no bother.

Also, sometimes these dances (HUD or not) can take a moment to start running. So if they don't seem to work, just wait a little longer. You may also have to turn off a conflicting animation override you might be using.

Sounds like you did good. If it's a sociable crowd try to be sociable, I know this is not easy for those of us that are typically shy. Which is ironic as I am a DJ as well and enjoy what I do. You never know what friends you may make when you open up at a party.

Also, and I hate to be a sourpuss, but you might keep in mind that your favorite club will probably only stick around for a month or two. Clubs are notoriously hard to keep staffed, and the owners quite often get tired or bored or frustrated, and just shut down altogether. Just remember that it happens a LOT here, so don't freak out if it does happen.

(pssst... might want to inform your favorite club's owner that sploders that you pay money into aren't technically allowed in SL anymore, and he risks getting shut down if someone reports it... just a heads up.) :)

Yeah, what's up with all the sploders I keep seeing?

In fact...the club with the "Best in Popularity Contest" I went to last night had one.

Hmmmm.....thinking.....am I that mean? ;)

I'm seeing lossa poppers, but not sploders.

I think poppers are allowed, where you pay it, and then everyone votes or whatever, and then get paid based on votes..

Is this what you classify as a sploder?

What about this thing I bought that advertises itself as a "legal sploder"?

I saw the voting popper once, but the ones I've seen at two particular clubs are the typical - people pay into it and at a certain point it "explodes" and everyone who paid in gets a random amount of L.

And at least one club the sploder is advertised in all their group announcements.

That sounds legal to me, but I'm fuzzy on the gambling ban.

I thought it was illegal if you paid and had a random chance at winning or NOT winning.

Sounds to me like you are winning every time, just a random amount.

Sploders never went away,

there are the originals all over still (and the best in FUN IMHO)

then these cup ones that give a gift to everyone as well as split up the pot.

then piggy bling type ones (drop coins or other objects you must click on first "skill based";)

and these vote ones that are stupid and I don't see very often.

yes the clubs put them in notices and IMs and on the event listings, I never thought of a sploder as a gambling device and many don't its more like a 50/50 raffle, with more of a 90/10 90 going to ALL that put in and 10 to the owner, some are 100% out.

it all depends what one and how they are done if its legal and LL never made it clear and still hasn't what is and what isn't, they will take the item if its reported enough not shut the place down.

paid into it, and did the vote thing a couple times
both times the DJ won...

too easy to rig those
