How "Mature" is a "Mature" sim allowed to be?

Are there any limits to what content can be put on a Mature sim? For example I am next to a very tall build, covered inside and out with graphic nudity. I mean LARGE photographs of RL porn, not just pictures of avatars. They are selling NOTHING in world. The entire point of their build is to drive traffic to their RL website. Does this violate anything in TOS, or are they in the clear on this? I don't know.

Thanks,
Ansgar

I believe that rl porn on the outside is a no-go. Inside is different.

I don't think RL porn is traffic producing IMO

This is from the Knowledge Base:

In Mature regions, Residents can be free to engage in more adult activity and language, though of course, explicit adult content must be contained behind "closed doors".

I guess it depends on Linden Labs definition of explicit.

giant porn paintjob on mainland building shows lack of maturity

Poke your common sense for a minute and think about it. If your mainland PG sim is parked next to a mature sim, its easy enough to see whats on the other side of the fence. Thus if its not behind 'closed doors' and is visible from next door, it is in violation of treaty. In my opinion however, I think a mature designated 'island' sim should be allowed to do whatever it feels like. Giant porn or whatever, as long as its designated mature and the covenant allows it. If you can be mentally damaged, by seeing something you consider offensive, in the brief amount of time it takes you to 'get the hell out', well maybe 'SL mature' is too much for you to deal with and you should avoid the mature island sims where this stuff may be located. As for mainland properties, one should consider that to be open to general audiances and thus discretion should be advised.

I am 99% certain that I read that anything "adult" in a Mature Sim can not be visible from a PG sim, such as signs. I read it after seeing someone AR'd for it. I have not been able to find that again, so maybe I was dreaming, but I don't think so.

From: Knowledge Base
What is the difference between PG and Mature land?

Landowners can indicate their land to be either PG or Mature from the Region tab of the Region/Estate window, using the Maturity dropdown list.

The PG and Mature ratings mirror those used by many countries' movie and television industries to denote the age-appropriateness of behavior, language and creations within a given area of Second Life.

PG Areas are designated to be free from sexually explicit language or behavior, swearing and other forms of aggressive language, violent behavior and/or imagery, including horror. In Teen Second Life, "gambling" for Linden Dollars is also prohibited.

Children and young people up to age 17 are automatically restricted to Teen Second Life, a special PG area that separates them from the adult population of Second Life for their own protection.

Adults age 18 and over may seek an experience free of Mature content and so, we also offer PG areas within the adult regions of Second Life.

Mature areas are limited to the adult-accessible areas of Second Life only, and do allow adult language and behavior.

So how do I know where to draw the line?

PG regions have frequently been described as an area where you're free to say and do things that you would feel comfortable doing in front of your grandmother, or a grade school class.

In Mature regions, Residents can be free to engage in more adult activity and language, though of course, explicit adult content must be contained behind "closed doors".

However, if you feel there's some ambiguity as to whether or not your activity or content is allowed in a PG region, it's likely best kept to a Mature region.

The reality of how the Lindens enforce this may be different.

considerably hehe

I did hear at one time that was how it was enforced, or maybe how residents behaved.

I would guess that based on the info in the Knowledge base that you could AR someone and eventually push to have suggestive nude shots in public removed. It's definitely not something the Lindens pursue on their own. They'd be damned busy if they did. Having their system search for gambling machines or 16m parcels is one thing, how in the hell could they search out naughty textures?

I think this is a good point.

They don't enforce any content restrictions normally on their own, there have to be complaints.

Guess its like cops and loud parties.

I agree, for two different meanings of "traffic." Seems there'd be very few who would frequent an SL locale because of RL pr0n being visible, but I think the OP suggests the intent was to promote RL websites. And there, too, it seems a really hopeless bit of advertising: nothing can make RL pr0n look sillier and more pathetic than the SL setting. Be about as effective to advertise it in the church-ladies' cookbook.
