So my girl and I just bought an island, we are set up as group owners. She was messing with access rights and settings on the land, now the owner (rude guy) of the sim is giving us 24 hours to remove ban lines of he will reclain our purchace. does anyone out there know what the steps are for removing ba lines. It is a class 5 sim ina 'uppity' area and stricty prohibits VISIBLE ban lines. PLESAE if you dont know how to remove visble ban line then leave room in this thread for those who do...thanks!

right click the land for the land options
unselect any boxes checked under the access tab
if banning specific persons is dissallowed for some stupid reason, go to the ban tab and remove all the names by high lighting it and press remove

Go to your parcel. Go to world>about land in the menus at the top of the screen. Go to the tab marked 'access' Make it so access is open to everyone ^_^ You can ban specific people using the fields below the full-access bit and such... but yeah, thats the quick and easy way to get rid of ban lines

Firstly, you need to keep in mind that by "buying" an island you actually just started renting. "Buying" estate land is just an upfront fee for renting. This is different from the mainland. Secondly, the estate owner keeps possession of the land. Technically he may throw you out whenever he wants and nobody will be able to prevent that or to help you if he does. This means that (1) you need to do what he says and (2) you need to find a reputable and trustworthy landlord. Best talk to current renters or ask in the SL Land Answers Unlimited group. If he turned out to be rude, you best find another place fast before some other problem develops. Thirdly, it seems that the owner prohibits ban lines, so you must not ban other avatars. There are no invisible ban lines, sorry! You need to open access again (About Land ... / Access / uncheck all boxes). Good luck! I recommend to IM the SL Land Answers Unlimited group for quick help on land related questions. Threads in here can turn in interesting ways, especially on Fridays.

Depending on the client you're using, there are either one or two tabs that affect this. As the previous poster indicated, first right click on the ground in your parcel and select 'about land'. Then see the Access and/or Ban tabs. Uncheck any options that are checked there.
Setting certain named people as "allowed" means everyone else who is *not* on that list is banned from the parcel. Setting a group as who is allowed is also a way that bans anyone not on the list. Then you can be used together, allowing "anyone in the specified group" plus "Anyone on this allow list". Either way, this severely limits who can pass through your parcel, and through the airspace up to 50 M above the terrain. So some landlords disallow those two choices.
The Ban tab can allow you to exclude people based on payment status, (or in some clients, based on lack of age verification) , and allows you to explicitly ban specific individuals who you do NOT want on your land, such as known griefers or troublemakers. Most landlords will at least allow you to ban a specific named person. Those bans go to 768 Meters, but only affect the specific named people.
After you remove the specific bans that you had in place, talk to your landlord and ask what IS permitted in regards to preventing every wacko stranger in SL from wandering into your bedroom unannounced. If the answer is "nothing", or "Ban by explicit Avatar name, but only after they have offended you", I'd very seriously consider finding a new landlord.

I have never understood why banlines need to be visible. Anyway, the posters above have given you all you need to know about removing them.
You can still protect your home using a security orb (most landlords in their right mind would permit this, as long as you kept it to a sensible range - i.e. within your parcel boundary).

Thank you for all your help...we have simply and quickly resolved the 'illegal' ban line issue. our parcel is now no longer up for sale (hehehe I wasnt aware he had done THAT at first) So now we are looking at what our options are, and keeping a close eye out and watching our back side.

If he did that at first without simply giving you warning, I'd consider selling and leaving him/her for a better land manager. Most would give you a warning WITH a deadline to comply before setting the land for sale. See, we did answer a question without derailing!

Morals of the tale:
1) Read the Covenant before parting with cash.
2) Remember that the Estate Owner's word is final. LL will not get involved.
Re above point about a nicer community, I'd always recommend talking to Sofia Westwick to see if she has land. Mention me please, there's no reward in it for me other than knowing she knows I am looking out for her, for the great support and service she's always given to me.

From: Graphicguru Gustav Thanks sweetie I apreciate that...& yes we are considering selling to find a more compassionate community. BTW, many people put up ban lines and are not even aware of it. When you edit your land to create an access list, you are automatically raising ban lines to keep everyone else out. I have pointed this out to several neighbors who were completely unaware that they had done that ( the ban lines are not visible to them so they don't know until someone tells them )

From: Graphicguru Gustav ...we are considering selling to find a more compassionate community. Compassionate, maybe, or maybe just less of a swindle. I gather from this and another (now closed) thread, that some up-front money was paid to "buy" the land. Unless the Estate owner was planning to refund you in full ( ), this has all the earmarks of the "found a new prospect--boot a current owner" scam. I know there are sound arguments for up-front fees for Estates but they're just so easily abused.

I'd find a new landlord anyway. This guy seems unreasonable and I'd be worrying about what else he may do in the future.
