We were at this playing DMC, and low and behold , they are telling you that you must pay L$20 to win the POT.

HMMMMMMMM , DMC is a gamce of CHANCE - not a game of skill. And from what im reading on the SL rules about gambling that they have made illegal, these people and those alike are breaking the rules ! Look at what they did to my sis !

[19:51] shouts: ~~MAKE SURE TO TIP THE PIGGY 20L OR MORE TO HAVE A CHANCE AT TAKING HOME THE BACON!!~~
[20:12] DmC control shouts: And the winner is... with a score of 55120 !!!
[20:13] You: woot sis , wtg !!!!
[20:13] : WTG! Grats! But I dont see that you donated 20L to the piggy so I will have to roll the prize over

This person says because she did not pay the L$20 that she didnt win the pot of L$569. And see right at the beginning where they shout that you must pay to win the pot.

Now this is what SL has banned regarding GAMBLING / WAGERING :::

What does “wagering” mean according to this policy? The term “wagering” applies to any covered game or activity (i.e. game of chance, sports betting) in which a user contributes Linden dollars (or real-world money or things of value), whether into a pot, at a table game, at a house game, for purchase of a card (such as Bingo), or in any way risks Linden dollars based on whether an event may or may not occur, such as whether a team will win a sporting event, or whether Barack Obama will win the Democratic primary

PLAIN and SIMPLE - right from the lindens mouth !!! any game of chance where user contributes linden dollars into a pot !!!

THESE PEOPLE ARE BREAKING THE RULES ! LETS SEE IF SL DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT

Thats the rules SL........................what are you going to do about it !!!??????????????

I don't know if it's legal or not, RC, but if you want something done about it you need to AR them. Posting it here will not do anything. What it might do is get you in trouble though, because there are forum rules against naming names, which is something you did in your post.

Hate to play Forum Cop here, but I see it's your first post and thought I should give you a heads up. I suggest you edit your post and take their name out.

BTW, okay I get that it might bother you, but why all the drama about it?

The DMC game itself says "No player payment is accepted on this game" Yes you can contribute if you want, but that in no way denies you the win if you dont contribute. But to say you MUST pay to win the pot, that is against the Wagering guidelines.

You know there are some exploders that are allowed. I see them in clubs these days. the one you are seeing might. might be the same one. People jump in add to the pot and its given to those that pay the orb 3 or more that added to it. The last one wins but the others are also given a share of the winning based on timing and order they paid.

Hey RC, long time bud.

I agree with you they are breaking the rules to require payment in order to win. Best thing to do is Abuse report it and have your friends do the same. The more AR's on one said thing will get more attention from multiple resident complaints.

I also agree with Bradley, remove the names. You can get into trouble banned etc for doing so. The names form the chat log and the Island it takes place on.

I just think its rediculous to have rules that nobody follows. I have edited my post and taken their names out.

Still its sad to see rules implemented and people twist them and taking advantage of it. Im a very honest person and to see that happen to one of my family which is obvious violation of the RULES SL implemented verbatum

i think something needs to be done about it is all. I dont consider it drama, but it is frustrating to see this going on and im all about fairness. I am a nice guy and honest . Oh wait nice guys finish last ........ and it doesnt pay to be honest .

Your not alone. many feel the same way. But you have to remeber the large paying members are those that have power in the game these days.

Yes those sploders are now where you have to touch them when it goes off, the first to touch them wins most of the pot, they consider that skill :>;)

Thanks all , good to vent, and see you those that have replied agree.

Well the smart club owners don`t use those "TOUCH" style orbs anymore. Thoe are gambling. But the one I pointed out are not breaking TOS rules.

They found a work around...
12-20-2007 21:24
The playing is free...she did get to play. But if you want to get the pot, you must donate to their piggy, from what I understand...like a tip. For each $10 tip, they put $9 in the winners pot. Point is, you do play for free...even if you dont tip. You just dont get the pot if you dont participate in the tipping. Sounds like they found a work around.

I don't discount your honesty RC. I also see nothing wrong with you being upset about this violation and suggested you AR them. I just felt you were overreacting a bit. I'm sorry I was rude.

Welcome to the forums.

If they really wanted to stay below the radar, they should 'suggest' a tip, without requiring it. Doing it in this way is bound to piss a percentage of their customers off, and they're just asking for abuse reports to come in.

My gut tells me that its only a matter of time before DMC is classified as a gambling game; regardless of the particulars. Blame greed for that.

RC is just worried about those getting a unfair advantage. Who can blame him! Thease days is " DOG eat DOG" pardon the pun as they say. Those clubs that use allowed by TOS. are doing it onthe edge of the rules. Sooner or later everyone that is breaking TOS will dealt with.

and it is a work around i love
sorry but i love slingo play it every day and it gets very frustrating watching people play for free and then winning the pot and then most of them dont donate back in after winning or if they do they complain about it for an hour

to me slingo may seem like a game of chance to some but i feel it has skill involved also yes the #'s are random but you gotta place them right to help your score out

Playing devils advocate for a moment...

So you playing self proclaimed rule enforcer of SL? Basically ratting out anyone and anythings you feel is a ToS violation?

Wouldn't it be easier to just NOT VISIT such establishments that you feel uncomfortable with? If enough people feel the way you do then traffic to said place will go down and the owners will be forced to rethink they way they do things.

Or is this just a ego trip for you under the guise 'its against the rules so I am 'obligated' to fill out a AR'?

Note I am not defending the person or place in question or debating the merits if they have broken the rules or not. I am questioning however your motives and why you simply just don't move on if you don't like the way the place is run (like most people would do) and seem to be looking to cause drama.

Just my honest observation.

Just file an AR and let the Lindens decide whether this normally free/legal game, which in this case is requiring a wager fee disguised as a "tip", and which pays out based on random numbers - is being operated legally or not. Then don't sweat about what others think.

I think the "loophole" they've found out here is that by making the wager and payout part of the activities done by the host, rather than a script in the device that runs the game, they can hide the gambling nature of the game. The device can't be returned, because it's not a gambling game on its own, and the behaviour of the host can only be judged based on hearsay.

It is, however, against TOS to operate a game that requires payment in exchange for a random chance of a tradeoff, no matter which words are used to describe the process.

I don't see what there is to get upset about here. They didn't "do" anything to your sis. Your sis was informed of the rules prior to playing. She failed to fullfil all of the requirements for winning the pot. So, they did what they said they were going to do (i.e., not pay out).

As far as the TOS violation, even if it is a violation, who cares? Nobody's getting taken advantage of or hurt in any way. Let's keep things in perspective. This place apparently just wants to run a game where people pay into the pot and then the winner gets the money. Big deal.

I love slingo too and I recall that there is also a blue drop down card saying that it is a tip to the owner and that you agree when you tip the pig. I personally don't have a problem with that and am happy to see some slingo type games still available.

Hehe yeah... write it on a piece of paper if it makes you feel better... then promptly drop it in the memory hole.

Just a thought that occurred to me on this topic...

If I was a betting man I'd wager there are prob more then one underground casinos in SL thats invite only or some such way to keep it under the radar.

Similar to speakeasy clubs in the 20's in the US.

Just my take.
