how long has it been since you've been able to cross a sim without getting catapulted halfway accross the one you're moving into. then sometimes warping back to where you crossed or just staying in the middle of the sim.

about an hour here too tops...
or I try to walk someplace and I can't stop walking and start sinking into the ground while continuing to walk. I can turn around, but then end up just walking backwards. When I finally stop walking.. it warps me back to the place I first started walking??? Afterwards, 8 times out of 10, the program freezes up (sometime my whole computer) and I need to re-log/reboot. *sigh* only to have it happen again...
Makes it very difficult to get anything accomplished in-world... o.O

Erm, no, I was saying that I'd crossed a sim border without any issues about an hour before I posted.

yes the dangers of sim crossing. It's been about a day for me since I've gotten a nice and smooth sim crossing.

I quite often get smooth sim crossing when walking down to the creek near where I live for a swim. Also when swimming (SLSwim 2.1 animation), it's not unusual to swim across from one sim to another without trouble. I also like to hike down the future highway that passes my place. I have to cross 4 sims to get to Lake Big-big, at the end of the highway, and if I stop for a second or two before crossing each border I don't usually crash. Sim crossing in my car, though, usually results in getting stuck.

It's a lottery.
I regularly cross the borders of empty sims in Corsica. (Is an empty Class 5 a Class 5.5?) The same crossing is sometimes trouble-free, sometimes extreme yo-yo / rubber-band / loss_of_control / balding. Problems occur even when a check shows my 2M DSL line is supporting a steady 1.7/1.8. There's no sim-lag (unless it's lag caused by the other sims sharing the server). It's all network lag.
It seems to be LL bandwidth issues slowing down the sim handover process to 'unacceptable' levels. Stopping a moment inside the 10-metre boundary band of the sim I'm leaving does help, but not always.

I used to be an avid driver of SL roadways. USED to be.
Version 1.13 was about the end of any stable handoffs. Before that, having issues as more a rarity, though did happen on a regular basis.
Various things contribute, from how many prims in attachments, to what's in the two sims, but the biggest factor is your speed. The faster you hit the border, the higher the chance for the SL Triangle Effect.
Some vehicles compensate for this by a script stopping them at the border to help with sim-to-sim handoff. Also, staying in each sim for a minimum of 20 seconds helps as well, by letting the sim "get used" to you. I read the 20 second aspect in some SL documentation long ago, but darned if I can remember where. (Just so you don't think I pulled that number out of my linden.)

When I was testing my monorail I found it derailed on sim borders because the rail prim across the border always behaved as phantom.

On Corsica, pretty much every day for the past few weeks. I built a jetski and am scripting an engine from scratch (ie. not using example scripts) for educational reasons .. so I've been crossing sims on a vehicle quite frequently. What kind of results do you get from speedtest.net? Low speeds or high latency may be a factor.

From: Conifer Dada When I was testing my monorail I found it derailed on sim borders because the rail prim across the border always behaved as phantom. You can "fix" this by extending bits of the rail from both sides into the other sims by several meters. I believe you need to go at least 5 more meters to offset the problem. For an in-world example go to any LL roadway and Highlight Transparent (Ctrl+Alt+T) [or is it Ctrl+Shift+T? I always confuse that]. Note the big red flat "plates" that LL placed over the sim borders. There are two. One comming from each sim (or more if connecting at a 4-way corner). Note: This is not a perfect "fix" by far, but one that LL has, themselves, implemented, and does appear to take off the worst of the effects of transversing sim borders. ~Jessy

i never have problems crossing sims. when you freeze for a second, quit pushing buttons and wait for it to catch up, and all will be fine.
