Group IM's not working

hiya is anyone else having problems with getting any of there group IM's to work?

Because none of mine are working. all i get is

"Unable to send your message to chat session with [RECIPENT] Error making request. please try again later"

if i type one word at a time it works now and again but if i try to type a filly sentance it keeps coming up with that message.

Also i dont have the option to start confance's any more =(

why?

this new viewer is starting to look like a total flop Grrrr =(

This has always been an issue/bug. Not just in the new viewer.

I'm still in the last before current viewer. And group IMs are seriously borked, as in, do not work at all half the time and the other half very very lagged behind. With several error messages and then the IM post showing up ages later.

It does seem to happen when a new viewer is added, even if you don't have that one yet.

before i updated to 1.23 i had no problems with group IM's at all. soon as i update it started

It's not related to the client, this problem is on there side (the server code)

Then you have been very lucky. This has been an issue for quite a while and happens most in really large groups.

This is a long-standing problem, and there are some groups which simply stopped working altogether. Things were more or less working, a lot of the time anyway, on small and medium sized groups, until about 3 (or 4?) weeks ago. Since that time, group IMs have not been working at all for the most part.

This is how Second Life has always been: extremely broken and flakey, with same technical issues going on and on and the same bugs for years and years. I've been here since 2006 and it's always been this way. (Older residents say the same thing.)

They do have a status page blog that tells you when things like this are broken, but it usually doesn't admit to most problems. When it does, it's a long time (hours or days) after it's been plaguing the users. Then soon after they announce that the problem was transitory and has been cured. Even though it is not fixed at all and everyone is still having the problems.

I don't know if that's because they are so inept that they actually believe they fixed it and are unable to see that they have not, or whether it would just look bad to have an official web page that said everything was totally busted all the time and they can never fix the problems. I suspect the latter.

I've been having this problem frequently over the past week or two.

If you are just using Group IM not as chat, but to send short messages to the whole group (e.g., Event in progress now), type your message in Notepad, copy it, and then past it into your Group IM window. Just try sending it over and over til it takes. Sometimes it takes four or five tries.
