I was cruising the waterways with my new boat. Hit a sim crossing that said, "You must be age verified to enter this parcel." My boat went spinning into the void and I had to relog.
I checked my account and it says I am already age verified: What gives?

I thought age verification was dead. Are they still doing it? There were nightmares implementing it, as I recall.

Right: Whether your account has been IDV'd seems to have little to do with what happens in-world, w.r.t. IDV-restricted parcels. It works both ways: some verified accounts can't get into restricted parcels, and some unverified accounts can. AFAIK, though, if an account can (or can't) get into one restricted parcel, the same will hold for that account on all such parcels.
There's also some ambiguity about whether IDV is in beta or is considered "live" on the grid now. As best I can tell from the blog post history, parcel owners are in fact supposed to be restricting parcels/sims hosting super-mature content, despite the fact it doesn't actually work. One supposes LL would not be eager to admit that they have no working age verification, but given the state of its implementation, one might also conclude that really having one is Not A Priority.
Or perhaps a nerfed implementation is as good as--or even better than--a working one, in that it shifts liability from LL to landowners without the inconvenience of those landowners actually using it.

Steely, the problem is EXACTLY what you encountered. LL will let you (encourages you to) age verify. They provide an option for landowners to restrict access to age-verified avatars. BUT...the system is broken (more correctly, it has never worked).
I suggest you contact the landowner and let them know what happened. If enough people complain, maybe landowners will get the message: Do NOT age-restrict your parcels. It only annoys passersby and potential customers.
[EDIT: Qie, that is SUCH a sneaky thought. I'll bet it's true.]

After extensive testing with a few of my accounts, I finally concluded that it is consistently inconsistent. Sometimes, just changing the viewer version you use will change whether or not you can access the restricted parcel -- and sometimes not. Sometimes a relog will let you in when you could not get in before -- and sometimes not. Then again, sometimes if you try on a different day, it will suddenly work - and sometimes not. And last but not least, sometimes if you come at the parcel from a different direction, you can get in -- and sometimes not. Yes, definitely send the land owner a message as many folks out there do not really read the blogs and/or forums much.

I was cruising the waterways, not paying much attention to anything but my shiny new boat.
