Have read about Bots for a while and still don't quite understand how they work. But I am wondering if they can be used to vote. Recently a friend entered a contest and all her friends went daily to vote and she was doing very well with a 100 vote lead. Last week another contestant surged ahead on her vote count by some 20 votes per day. This has been consistant on a daily basis. The fact that my friend is losing the contest now is irrevelant, I am curious if a Bot vote is possible. Thanks, Becca

I don't see why not. Bots are counted as regular residents for every other purpose. I don't know if they can be scripted to vote in contests - I suppose it depends on the method being used for the voting - but if automating the vote doesn't work, the BotMaster could always log in with them individually to manually enter the vote.

While it's possible for a Bot to be scripted to vote, you have to remember that a bot is almost completely incapable of interpreting its environment - a bot is generally almost completely blind, seeing only things it's been explicitly scripted to look at, generally deaf to anything except direct IM's, and normally incapable of movement from one place to another with any reliability.
The exceptions are the land bots, who move from region to region at high altitude so that they don't have to negotiate the terrain, or camping bots which are coded to look for things to sit on.
I'd be surprised if vote counts were being run up by bots, though I suppose anything's possible.

I'll be watching this November to see if I notice any strangely dressed people standing around the voting booths on Presidential election Day.
so help me if I see someone that looks like "girl next door" staring at the wall while waiting to vote, I may just lose it!
damn SL...it ruins everything...argh!!

I wrote about a situation like dis f'r the Metaverse Messenger a couple weeks ago.
It would be possible, I suppose.
1. tell 'bot to go to "x" sim, to particular once daily 2. tell 'bot to touch object named "your friend" 3. tell 'bot to listen for text indicating successful vote 4. tell 'bot to leave if text heard *else* repeat from step 2.
Would it be worth it in time and money to do such a thing?
