Vote Boxes: are they still useful

Does anyone know if the vote boxes are still useful? Especially pointers to a current
SL web page with vote results, or something that indicates whether it will be used in
the new search as part of the scoring.

I think they are strictly legacy. I am not aware of any evaluation on voting results.

I think it'd be kind of fun if they did use the vote boxes as part of their scoring system for search. It'd give the ones that are gaming it something more to pay 'camping' for ;)

I believe that vote boxes have nothing to do with the official search.

The linden ones aren't but I think the slpopularplaces ones that have more or less taken their place (essentially website listing ordered on the number of votes each place got) are since they are a certain measure of popularity.

Not those I don't think, though a lot of places base how much they put into a sploder or other chance money giving device on how many votes they recieve.

Those are add-ons by the land owners, yes even unofficial stuff that hardly anyone really knows about gets gamed! I've also seen notecard givers and things like that rigged to send votes.

No, there is one (its a tall vote machine) that hands it out. I have gotten 2 linden from two different locations, one of them being a spot that had historical stuff from SL (I forget the name, but it was an interesting little spot that showed some of the old features SL had). I might expect those add ons for places that are looking to, as you said, game the feature but not the places I got the lindens from only because of its content. I will have to find one again to see what it was, been a while since Ive done any voting for anything lol

No you are thinking of b-places website. I've found it to be somewhat helpful in finding interesting places. It's sponsored by Brussells Airlines and as far as I can tell has no affiliation with any particular sim.
