By "gifts" you mean freebies, right? Just set the item for sale for L$0, or if it's an outfit, box it up and set the box's CONTENTS for sale for L$0. Easy peasy.

no I dont mean freebies
I mean you buy something and you want to give it to someone as a gift

without using transfer ticked in the options of said item. For sales

Ah gotcha. Well it depends on whether that item is set for transfer rights. If you can't transfer it, then you can't give it away. In your inventory, you'll see it list as (no transfer.)

To give something to someone, open their profile, and drag the item from your inventory to the "give item here" field (or whatever it's called, I'm not inworld right now.) They will have to be set to not busy in order to accept your inventory offer.

Both onrez and SLX have "buy as gift" options, so you could list your products and refer gift givers to one of those sites.

[ edit to add: Had to peek in world to find the name of the vendor with the interface I liked. It's Henri Beauchamp's Cool Vendor. Looks like it's 500L for a copyable vendor, each transaction brings up a little menu for deliver to me, deliver as gift, or cancel purchase. ]

Another option is to contact the seller and ask him/her to transfer the gift to the avatar you want to buy a gift to. Don't buy it yourself if the ad says: "No transfer".

IM the seller first. If you don't hear anything it's perhaps because the seller isn't inworld or their IM's are full and then new IM's don't come through.

Then you can use a notecard. In your inventory, click on "notecards" and choose "new note". Name the new notecard "Buy as gift" and write in: Hi i want to buy avatar xxx xxx a pair of the yyy. Can i pay you and then you transfer them to xxx xxx?

Then just wait for the response. The serious sellers are in SL regulary and respond after 1 or 2 days..... You can also ask to buy the gift as transfer but no copy. Then you give it away yourself. When you drag over the gift to their profile, you will get a message that says that "this is no copy and you will lose it. Will you really give it away?" Click on "yes" and that's it!

At the my shop i offer the possibility to buy no-transfer items as gift by using:

- SLX or OnRez websites (with the "buy as gift" option);
- Buy a credit coupon that is "transfer", so the other person may "buy" the product directly paying with the coupon.
- Contact me to arrange a third party delivery.

...i preferred to not use "automatic" vendors to buy as gift, since you need to manage with messages etc., it's not so complicate, but it may generate more troubles than benefits.

How do those coupons work? How do they cash them in? I would like to use something like this,

I have about 3 coupons myself that Ive won at some point and have no idea what to do with them.. ; (

It depends by the credit: you can use a "credit card", it is a scripted object (a simple scrpt with a listen...) to worn, and instead "Paying..." the object you will chose the "Card..." option from the menu.
Other's are just "textures" (transfer only) to give to the shop owner to pay (manually transferred) instead of money.

Some vendors allow you to buy as a gift - hippoVend, Moopf Murray's Giftopf, etc. If you see something that looks like a present, or the words "buy as gift" or something like that, it will deliver that functionality for you.

Just make items transferable as they should be and avoid problems for yourself as well as for the customers who then have to go out their way to find shop owners.

No transfers, no mod makes no sense.

Right -- just make your content transferrable, and anyone can buy it and then give it to anyone else. Of course, you'd want to make it also no-copy, because if it's copy/xfer, then it has become a freebie.

I disagree.

No-transfer makes sense to me, I prefer that when buying most things. For clothing & attachments, I like to be able to put folders together with whole outfits that I can click the folder and wear, or "replace outfit". For objects that get set out, it's nice to know you won't lose it if SL goofs up.

I sell all products modifiable. This is especially important for attachments that may need to be resized. But that's my choice. Other vendors have good reasons for making their products no-mod. For one thing, it makes them harder to imitate.

So, I sell all products copy/mod/no-xfer, and for a gift you can buy on SLX or IM me. My hat's off to vendors who provide both styles (copy vs. xfer) in their shops. Keeping inventory up to date (for scripted objects where many use the same scripts) is a big enough hassle already! I got so sick of updating all colors & textures when I updated an item, I made a script to allow the customer to select them, so now I only have one copy of each item rather than a dozen variations of each.

You can use the vendors as others have suggested. The script that drives these vendors does a look-up of the UUID of the avatar you are buying the gift for, and (I think) use a third party database to do this. If the database is down then the object will not be given as a gift, and you can end up with a lot of after sales service issues......

There are times when you do not want your products to be transfer (clothes for example)... another option would be to offer gift certificates maybe?
