Hey folks.....just an FYI....
Since the Windlight release a lot of complaints have come thru about how bad avitars look....and I agree...all my beautiful skins look so washed out and oddly shadowed. I did find that darker skins look better...... But now I've stumbled on a skin shop.....great prices and the skins all look beautiful in Windlight! I'm trying all the demos......and they work!
So..... while I know there's lots of competition, and I don't want to anger anyone by naming the creator here......if anyone wants to know....IM me in-world and I'll tell you which skins. (and no, they're not mine, sadly, I can't do skin lol)

Interesting...
What do these Windlight inspired skins look like in the regular viewer? Were they made specifically for Windlight or do they just look good in it?

I talked about dis is another thread too. Ones that used to look great because of their shading are now suffering because the shading + windlight is too much. Ones with a lighter hand at the shading are serving much better under Windlight.
Mari (Who avoids promoting the skin seller who did hers, for fear of being seen as spamming - but it looks great under WL)

Well..... after grabbing a few of the afore mentioned skins...I'm pretty pleased with them over all. There is still some shadowing in very bright day light with WL...but it is still not nearly as rough looking as the other skins I have.
I'm not entirely sure what the trick is with skin textures but I imagine it has something to do with detailing...it seems the more 'realistic' and detailed the skin is....the harder the shadows are in WL. Might be something to consider when creating skins once WL is fully integrated into SL. I don't (cannot) make skins so I'm at a loss.....but for those that do, I think this is a worthy challenge as folks are going to want to retain the original look of their avitars in WL and there may well be a mad dash to skin dealers to find just the right match! Also, again, it's the more tan skins that seem to be the least affected by WL.
I hope this helps folks...especially if you've recently got on board SL and you're not sure what the big deal is....rest assured you'll see what we're all talking about when WL is a permanant feature and you've become more adept at refining your avitar look.

Hmm... Does this mean that to those of you who now have WL, I look like a hideous shadow creature?

Yes, under quite a few lighting conditions. *sigh* There goes a, er, whole lot of $L down the drain. But, after trying WL for the first time last night, I have to say....it's worth it. And people look pretty darn good at the Forum Hangout under WL, too...so there's at least one haven left that you can run to.

Here's a couple links to shots I've gotten in WL, with me an my sissy, who both use skins from the same place. My choice of lighting is also a bit harsh. I'm still plenty happy with it, so I really tink it's WL + baked shadows leading to trouble. http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=227856http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=229487http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=229023http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=228964Mari (Yes, these are kid skins, but the same vendor makes women's skins, too)
