OK, I don't know what to do with my perfectly good NEWWWWWWWW computer which was working fine until the last update we had... this is a VISTA, so yes, I know there are problems, but I had just gotten it up and running two days before the new update and it was working fine.

Now, I can be on-line for a long time as long as I'm sitting in my house and don't move around. If I move a lot or try to go out anywhere, I crash. Again and again and again.
I've tried checking my graphics driver (which is already the latest edition, and this wasn't a cheap-o computer) and clearing my old files, etc.

What the heck is going on? I don't believe I'm the only one suffering....or am I?

Any advice for things to do would be appreciated. I am in between computer idiot and computer fool, (well, I know how to scrape around, but not in Vista)...help would be soooo appreciated.

/me hates crashing.

I'd advise posting this down in the tech forum. Also, be sure to post ALL your PC specs, from OS, to CPU, to Ram and Vidcard. Everything. The more info the tech-heads have, the better a chance they can see why it's not working.

Also, I'd like to point out that the "most up to date drivers" are not always the right ones. Sometimes you have to run the next oldest one to work on SL. I'm not saying that's the case here (I don't know what your system is), but it has happened in the past.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

I agree the Tech forum is likely to be more helpful. While waiting for an answer, it may be amusing to experiment with Preferences settings for Graphics and Advanced Graphics. The problem sounds like a glitch in an OpenGL driver--which are thick on the ground, with Vista--and the more "dumbed-down" the graphics, the less likely to trigger such things.

I wish the Lindens would be a little more forthcoming about what they are doing server-side on the grid. I've been playing with the OpenGL settings on my laptop's driver for a week, trying to resuscitate it after the last update. I've gone back to old clients etc.. ... very sad tale, but it would have been much shorter if LL could be persuaded to say that "oh by the way, SL is requiring 32-bit display buffers now" or whatever.

*whew* glad I got that off my chest. Back to the OP: there have been a few meaty threads from Vista users in a similar plight. Search for threads with Vista in the title, or that have a lot of postings with "Vista" in them.

Keep dreaming Nika ( not being rude ) but LLABs is totally losing their focus! These days waht is the important factor? Keep paying users or continue to sink in to the seas full of unpaying accounts? Well Since LLABS billing people seems to be uncaring and totaly screwup with what is important users that have been using the same credit card for years are now being told but they credit card companies LLABS is untrusting Well This is really cute a? What is worse is the billing department failed totally about explaining about credit useage and blaming the credit card companies for being too tight? TOO TIGHT?! well LLABS if you have not been so stupid with how you dealt with credit card companies it no wonder why they are untrusting you these days! For the future LLABS accounts and account reps. FOR ****** life of mankind SEND OUT E-MAIL MESSAGES ABOUT BILLING ISSUES . They use to do this but not anymore! Your customer Aservice reps on this issues sucks so bad! They blame us and the credit card company! OMG LLABS get your head out of the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep dreaming ...
Somehow I don't think the posting will have much effect, but for what little it's worth, Usagi, I sympathize. Of all the little aggravations and indignities I've experienced with SL, by far the most frustrating has to be the total disconnect between billing and any reversible transform of reality.

You know we nevr had this BS issues with billing until LLABs outsourced it billing. Now we have to deal with not only a badly created UI but a billing deptment that has little or not repect or understanding how to deal with the consumer. Totally sad these days.

Posting tech specs...
09-23-2007 16:33
Yes, well...as soon as I figure out what they are, I'll post them in the tech section.

I went into System Manager/Device Manager to try and find out what I could about the Graphics Card and such... there is, I swear, nothing listed there that makes any sense to me.

Maybe I don't have one, but I thought all computes had to have something. I just can't find it.

Thanks for attempting to help.

Shawnee, SL conveniently provides you with a list of relevant tech specs ... if you go to the Help menu in the client and choose About. Cut the little list of specs and paste it here. TY!

Does this to get your spec from SL UI..............

Crtl-P ------> lower left bottom corner you see a "BLUE colored "ABOUT" Push that and then you see all the detail about your Computer system specs. Cut and Paste them here.
