Is there an RP ONLY Gorean Sim?

Anyone know of a Gorean sim where people actually RP instead of meter/arena fight?

I am getting kinda tired of being sniped by stray arrows and no one can RP anything until they have already captured a person from some hidden spot. I am looking for a sim where the role play experience is primary, and any meters, etc are secondary.

Sl Gor is roleplay but combat is just something that comes with the package. The combat and any captures are valid roleplays just as much as standing in the square holding a conversation or rping healing someone (if you are a member of the green)

I think if you go here:

you will be more likely to find someone who can help you.

From what I remember, the books were 75% fighting anyway. Very teenaged-boy oriented.

I think the OP's gripe (maybe a bit of a big word, but I'm probably close) is that to many "goreans", the combat system and gaming that system is the leading factor, while RP comes only secondary. After getting sniped over and over by guerrilla attacks and stray (yeah, right..) arrows, one can indeed get very fed up with it. It can simply turn out to be nothing but powerplaying, using the combat system to do just what it was meant to prevent.

That's why there are actually multiple Gorean communities, a couple of them being almost completely closed, to keep the phletora of kids out.

I honestly wouldn't be amazed if some Goreans sometime developed a custom SL viewer with very minimized capabilities (no minimap or distant camming options, for example) to minimize the amount of "viewer abuse" and give a more "you only know what you see first hand" experience.

When you search, looks for sims that label themselves "By the Books." These will generally (but not always) have a very high priority put on roleplay and a very low priority put on combat.

There is also a sim opening up called Salernum, that seems like it will be all roleplay.

You might try a Google search of "Gorean Forum." There is a lot of good information there.

Hope this is helpful.

Hang out at the gor hub, talk to people, see who you get along with and whose city runs things how you like. Most will give tours, and the hub will ban anyone who uses the tour as a chance to 'cap' you. Also you should be wearing an observer tag during your tour, and usually that says you are 'invisible'.

Depends what you mean by 'roleplay' - some would consider defending their city to be roleplay. Only you can decide.

Marcush really summed up my beef (if you'd call it a beef, but pretty close;) much more eloquently than I could have.

I don't mind the fighting, actually enjoy it as good RP, but I prefer to rely mainly on verbal RP. I am looking for a place where defending my city means taking more of an active role than simply pointing and clicking my mouse to "kill" someone (we all know 32 arrows would kill a man -- yet the meter sytem "captures" them). Fighting with weapons is fine, and can also be fun after at least a bare minimum of background RP has been established.

Thanks for all the replies. I have somewhere to start looking now. I hadn't realized there was a gorean forum, or specific groups related to a more authentic rp experience. I am planning to take a trip to visit them.

The Gorean city called A^Turian^Gate began on IRC back in the 80's and migrated to SL. It does not believe in forced anything. Any combat would take place in a tournament atmosphere and again participation would be 100% consensual. This group is extremely well-versed on the books so if one TRULY wants to learn about Gor, this would be the sim to explore.

Piedmont is a Gorean city that developed from Iaomai. Iaomai was mainly a teaching sim and now devotes itself entirely to that, ie. it is not a city per se. Piedmont also is no capture, no forced anything.

There are likely a few others, but the above two would be my top recommendations for what the OP is looking for.

ETA: If anyone has any interest in either of these sims, they are ENTIRELY safe to go visit, but I will be happy to make introductions as well. Just send an IM to me.

SL Gor has changed a lot over the past 3 years. Most of it is now dependent on Combat Meters; however, I can say that for a lot of the other non-Gor RP sims as well.

There seems to be little true RP in Gor anymore...not really sure there ever was. What limited RP you see is mainly with the kajira doing serves in the taverns or between the master/slave contingency. And, the question of Gor RP is not something new because of SL Gor either....it pervades all the old IRC chats as well. Even Luther's Educational Scrolls (which use to be the end all in SL Gor) addresses this topic, which I fear is never read nor addressed by Gor Sims. You are simply going to be hard pressed to find any consistent RP going on in Gor especially now with the economy the way it is or people leaving for other virtual worlds.

The combat meter captures are always questionable as well. Personally, I will not accept a meter only capture regardless if it is in Gor or other RP sims. If they can't RP it out in some plausible fashion, then I am not going to waste my time on pointless RP and will leave. You will see this noted in a lot of RPers RP limits as well.

Good Luck is all I can advise you. If you find such a place, you might drop me an LM in-world. I am always looking for good places to RP.

/me points up to her two suggestions ^^ ;)

As for Luther, I met him on IRC. He is extremely knowledgeable (an attorney RL iirc); HOWEVER, he came on the scene a bit after many of us. I respect him highly for putting together a wonderful website, especially after the first Gorean channel, #Silk&Steel, took their's down. The Captain of A^Turian^Gate is just as knowledgeable, except it's all in his head, although the channel offered the first interactive Gorean Dictionary to the IRC Gorean community.

As an addendum, Luther held weekly meetings for a time on IRC. I propose them as excellent reading as well as his "Scrolls" website.

Logs of the meetings are here:

http://home.comcast.net/~goreanforum/

Select the first one, "The Future of Gor", skip the preamble (great reading but for the moment just skip down to where the log begins) and if you scan down a bit, you just might see a "familiar" name *grins*. Some of the people in those logs are what we call the "longtime Goreans" and many are in SL, but most keep to themselves on SL.

there used to be some sims that if you went out of the safe zones you risked being captured..
and if you failed to submit you would be banned..what every happened to the good ole days of "lets see if we can run through here without getting caught?" :D
i can remember the rush as if it was yesterday lol

sorry to all those i tripped as we were running away..but someone had to tell the tale :p

There are a gazillion Gor sims, and all of them are different in some way.

As someone else suggested, you ought to ask this question on goreanforums.com, which are for SL Gor. The forums are very civil, tolerant, and active, so you should get an answer pretty quickly.

(Also, the search actually works!)

There have been some recent threads on RP-only sims, and I tried to search them out, but wasn't successful.

Don't believe any sweeping generalizations about SL Gor. With as many sims as there are (and new ones constantly open) you can pretty much find any flavor of Gor that you like.

No offense, but, it confuses me when people talk about "real Gor" - aren't they works of fiction?
