This evening, about 6:30 PM, I clicked on a panel to buy a product. The money, L$ 899, was subtracted from my account, but no product was delivered into my inventory. I asked the avatar on duty what I would find it under in the inventory and he said he didn't know. I've been screwed out of L$ 899. How do I proceed to try to recover the money? Or get another copy of the product?

Thanks for helping with this unpleasant situation.

did you try contacting the owner of the store?

that would be my first step

you are not screwed until the owner says they won't help, or refuses to assist in finding the item

making trouble for the company will definately get you no help.

just hope the owner of the store doesn't see your post.

If I saw a post asking how someone could make trouble for my store, BEFORE they even contacted me, I would not want to assist them.

(and you did say you contacted the person on duty, but did not say you contacted the owner)

Welcome to Secondlife Edwardo... first, relog and see if it arrives. Then do a search for the item by name. If still no luck, send a message to the business. It's my thought that it's LL's fault and they should replace the money lost so that you can buy another one, but that thought won't get you very far. They refuse to help.

Most businesses understand and if you contact them nicely and remain polite most will replace the object for you.

It has happened to us all at one time or another.

Also, check you haven't muted the store owner by accident. This can often happen if a store sends you landmarks, notecards, group-join offers etc when you arrive, and you mute them rather than just discard them. You may have muted the owner this way, which means your item *was* delivered, but automatically rejected by you without you even knowing it.

I'm intrigued. Is there a Silver and Bronze Edition of this item. And if so, what are the differences?

As others have said, contact the shop owner first . Most will check their records to see if it was sent and recieved, and will send you another one. If he is difficult, send in a fraud Abuse Report. Don't "make trouble". It will only get you in trouble.

The owner of the store is frequently not the owner of the merchant of the product. right cilck the vendor and look at the owner name, that is most likely the poerson that collects the money.

SL screws up... items are sometimes not delivered. Whenever someone says they got screwed by SL I hand them a free copy. It makes for a life long customer. Not once have I found out or been given the impression that someone has scammed a freebie off me. (though I'll be more suspecious for a while afer this post :D)

But not all sellers are as open minded. It's 50/50 that you may get your item if you ask the vendor owner. But asking them is definately the first step.

Second step is... well sorry to say there is no second step :(

SL itself will sometimes eat your inventory too, it's sadly just part of the system.

(Aafter 5 years STILL no proper database transactions...)

Before you contact the owner/creator/vendor... look in your TRANSACTIONS HISTORY, (you'll find that link when you are logged into www.secondlife.com) find and copy all the information listed about the transaction. Paste that to a notecard. For privacy purposes, I do remove my total Linden balance before I send it off to the person I've bought something from but didn't receive the product.

First check in transactions history, and paste the transaction into a note, the "destination" in the transactions tells you the exact person you bought the item from, that is the person you should contact.

Be very sure that you didnt get the item, type its name into inventory search, if dont know its exact name type parts of the name like "gold" or "edition" or the business name.

No one is "screwing" you, there is no delivery confirmation in SL, the seller cannot know that the item wasnt delivered to you unless you tell them, if you have the transaction then the seller will also have it and will be able to confirm you paid for the item.

Bear in mind when you contact the seller that it is NOT their fault it happened, the tone of your post here(and the fact you posted here rather than doing the above) would indicate you are looking for someone to vent off at and you are under the impression someone is trying to take your money and run, the fault here is almost certainly with SL and its delivery system, for which the seller has no control over.

Send a polite note to the seller, include the transaction and say that you have tried clearing cache, tried searching and have had no luck.

Some sellers are not in SL every day as have real life jobs etc to contend with, if you send your message in a note you should receive a message when the person accepts the note so you know they got it.

It would be best to remove the sellers business name from your post here as you are harming them for a thing they probably dont even know happened yet and are not responsible for, plus its against LL posting rules and they may suspend you from the forum.

Good luck with this : )

You're just as well off with freebies, Edwardo.

Something else to try after you clear cache and relog, if you can't remember the name of the item or think the box may have been named something different...

Open your Inventory and go to the Recent Items tab. Click File and Show Filters. Set the Filter to show X number of hours or days, including the time frame when you ordered the item. If your item was delivered, it will show up. Check names of folders in that tab, too, in case you didn't get a boxed object but a folder with the product, support notecards, landmarks, etc.

I hope it turns up, or you and the seller can resolve this.

Ok. Here's what you do. Start a slander campaign against the owner of the store. Signs, titler over your head... the whole thing. Don't even contact the owner... he should be psychic to know there's a problem... lol

On a serious note, contact the owner over the vendor. If it was never delivered, he/she can send it to you and this will be taken care of. I have never had someone tell me "Too bad!" if something wasn't delivered.

EDIT - Well there was one place where I contacted the owner of the store and never heard back from him. I gave up and never went back there again. yes, I lost 1k... but bad businesses are very few here in SL.

It happens all the the time Edwardo. It's SL asset servers not delivering the product and no fault of the product owner....follow Craig's advice on how to approach the creator.

I'm forever having to send out undelivered products and i noticed that it has become more frequent in the last half year or so.

It will happen to you again and again whilst you play SL, be prepared for it....the key is not to panic...most reputable creators have no problem in delivering the product after an IM or notecard (preferable) sent by you. :)

This problem becomes a bit more complex when it involves franchise Resellers....you'll see that Creator's name as being that of the creator of the actual Vendor system (e.g Andy Enfield for Hippo systems)....the Owner's name will be the 3rd party franchise.....you won't actually see the real creator's name anywhere. It means you need to contact the Reseller to provide you the creator's name as he/she won't have any control over the Creator's product servers...and thus cannot send you the items.

PS i know it's stressful, but i'm pretty confident you'll eventually recieve the product.
