Have downloaded the new viewer (silly me) and have been trying to enjoy SL despite the bugs.
Just tried taking some snapshots and have found to my horror that, no matter what option i try in this new viewer, if i try to take a picture that is square - like 512 x 512 - the image constantly compresses and sqashes what im trying to take.
There was an option in the old viewer to ensure that what you see is exactly what you take, but this does not seem to be on the new snapshot.
Anyone got any ideas what i can do to start taking perfect pictures?

If by "the new viewer" you mean RC 1.20, then one of method taking screenshots without the flaws introduced in version RC 1.20 would be to use the "approved for general use" version. If there's a way to persuade RC 1.20 to behave properly prior to an updated version being released by LL that would be nice but I doubt that will happen. Another method of getting good screenshots is to get an image processing program that includes a screen capture utility. For Windows, IrfanView works quite well. It's free, and you can edit the shots. There's a plugin that lets you send the shots by email from within the program, which means you can email it directly to photoshop or flickr, and I think also to blogger or wordpress.com. There are other similar programs that are also free. You can also upload the image into SL for ten lindens. On Windows system, you can also press PrintScreen, and then pull up Paint, and do Edit Paste to open the image in Paint. Then use Paints crude tools to edit it and upload it from within SL or otherwise do what you want with it.
If buy "new viewer" you mean the current mainstream Release version Second Life 1.19.1 (4) Apr 2 2008 11:59:37 (Second Life Release) has the problem, then you can run older versions.
