SL is 3D right, in the sense that objects have a back and a front and you can walk all round them, and perspective applies. BUT it is on a flat screen so it is a 2D picture of a 3D simulation.
Now we know that you can have two avs running at once if you have a decent computer. SO why not show 2 different points of view from the same av, eye-distance apart from each other, and then play with the colours a little. Then with the simple corny old red-and-green glasses you can get fully 3D images, with all the effects of stereoscopic vision.
(And with better technology you can do without the glasses - but that would be a simple first step).
It needs a scripter I think, and MAYBE some adjustment needed from Linden about access. But worth it to those who like all the bells and whistles of better pictures?
(By the way, I see this as a voluntary technical advance funded only by its users, not something forced on everybody and triggering complaints about 'fix the lag first' etc).
Anybody interested? If there are some scripters who could do it, I might be interested in putting development funds in and selling a product which people could buy.
Or has it been done already?
A silly idea - or the next BIG thing for the grid? Would YOU buy an add-on to do it?
