Hi everyone,
has anyone a workaround for keeping the pre-Intel G5 Macs in SL? I downloaded the lastest crap...erm...viewer and get a performance loss of almpst 50 percent. Not to mentions system lockups on app window resizing, logging out, teleoprting, region crossing..
And this Windlight nonsense doesn´t work, anyway, so the performance loss of 50 percent is WITHOUT atmospheric shaders eneabled, in comparison to the Nicholaz 1.18-v is till use.
Newer graphic cards based on AGP are not an option, cause the best you can get there are the x800 ATI and the 6800 nvidia.
I looked into a flashed 7800 GS/GT for Mac AGP, but these are 300+ US dollars.
Is it necessary to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard?
Any suggestions? Or did LL really kill all pre-Intel Mac playability with this viewer?

A friend of mine is using 1.19.0.5 on her pre-Intel G4 and doing reasonably ok with it.
Windlight gives her the same issues you describe so any tips, tricks or workarounds for 1.19.1.4 would be appreciated for her as well.

The problems I described occur while NOT using windlight. And even on lowest settings i recognise a SIGNIFICANT performance loss in comparison to 1.18 (Nicholaz) on MAX settings.
So it is NOT my computer.

If nothing else, you can continue using the Nicholaz-patched 1.18.5.3 for now...it still works.
