OK, wow So I updated to the current version of SL..
things were peachy until a few hours ago when my SL WL viewer suddenly crashed.. Omg no big deal its SL I thought.. OK So I relog.. halfway through the progress bar SL shuts down. no freeze no warings just "gone"
I reinstalled the update and was able to get in... BUT it did the same thing, about 1-0 min into my SL time the viewer shuts down, no warings nothing.. (just the error report log)

I can not get online using this windlight version.
I really would greatly apprecaite any help on this issue as I have to use my old non-WL viewer to get on.

I'm not sure what you need to know, so please direct me what information would be helpful.

Thank you.

I've had this happen once or twice on a comp with Vista - on which SL WindLight normally works beautifully. Sorry I can't help more.

The actual viewer version numbers you are using would be most helpful to start with.

Windlight actually no longer exists and can't be used any more. The graphics rendering have been rolled into the 1.19.1 Release Candidate. If you want the windlight features, that is what you need to use.

Yes! I have Vista as well..
What gets me is they put out an update we have to get that is rendering the software useless to us! Tell me the logic in that?!?!?!??!?!?!?

I had no issues until the update on my vista machine.

Well I can't use this one.... So any ideas?
I get halfway into the signon status bar and SL shuts down on me.

Do you still have a shortcut to windlight on your desk top?

I am using the release canidate version.. I had had the issue earler of the using the other shortcut, but this is from the update release.

I have no issues getting on SL using Second Life 1.19.0 (5) Feb 28 2008 17:18:12 (Second Life Release)

And of course using the old windlight prompts for a DL which I then DL and I try to sign on after and bang SL goes poof....

Okay, gabbing at straws here.

Are you able to access your preferences before 'connecting'?
Maybe lowering things in your Graphics tab will help. Try disabling VBO in the hardware option for starters...

I lowered it to the lowest setting... disabled vbo... no go, I can not sign on. it gets to initilizing world and goes poof.

I've also uninstalled SL windlight viewer and went to the download page , to DL the release canidate and used that to install.

I'm really at a loss here and I am upset I am one of the people who pay for SL (as many of you do) and that fact I can't sign on because of a mandintory release pisses me off!
So I can not view the pretty not windlight anymore effects...

Who do I ask for help?? LL?? This is a serious issue and if it effects me, and another person that had responded who else?? How many of us won't be able to use SL because of this required update!!??

Please try to manually delete your cache:

Usually:

C:\Documents and Settings\{PC LOGIN NAME}\Application Data\Second Life\Cache

Remove the cache directory (SL will recreate it) and see if that helps.

Tarina, this may sound overly simple, but have you tried rebooting your machine? From your description of what's going on, it sounds like whatever caused the crash may still be in memory, and is causing the program to keep crashing. I'd be willing to bet that if you restart your computer, the problem will correct itself.

Just to be sure, the best thing to do would be to reboot once, uninstall SL and manually make sure the whole thing is really gone (cache, application data, etc.), then reboot again, and then reinstall SL. After you've done that, it will most likely work.

But if that doesn't do it, try scanning your hard drive for errors, and then defragging. A disk error could be the cause, or the result, of a crash in any program, particularly one as crash-prone and resource-intensive as SL. If that doesn't do it either, then try uninstalling audio and video drivers (with DriverCleaner) and reinstalling them. A bad driver could also be the cause, or the result, of a crash. If none of that does it, then I'm stumped for the moment.

I assume your system exceeds the minimum requirements for Windlight?

the same thing happened to me, i run the RC 1.19.1 for a couple of hours fine, then suddenly crashed, after that i've not been able to relog. When the load bar is almost full, crash, crash window (yes i'm sending LL several crash reports).

I've manually cleanned cache, unisntall and install RC 1.19.1 several times, reboot the pc, cleanned disk, defrag, nothing works.

My specs are enough for SL or Windlight

Windows Vista
Intel core duo T7300 2.00Ghz

2 GB RAM
NVIDIA Gforce8600

:(

and the drivers are all up to date

Yes, pc is good for requirment.. I also, did reboot after uninstalling..then reinstalled..
there are 24 instanes of program issues for SL in my windows vista problem reports and I frankly am not technically minded enough to know what all those numbers mean.. Some are pre-install of release canidate..
I've sent over a support ticket to SL..
In the meantime, I will try again the whole uninstall/reinstall process.. then move on to drivers..(which are upto date)

This really stinks. I was not having any problems with the windlight client before I "had" to dl this release.. : (
I also disables UAC thinking that maybe that was an issue.. no luck.

prior to SL release canidate crashing none of my friends were showing and I had 4 hippos....
I can use the old non windlight version of SL to sign on, but none of my friends are on it.

Do you think this could be teh "bug" fixes they need to roll out?

also, um.. maybe Im just not seeing it, but in windows vista where exactly is documents & settings?? I can't find it.

I have the same exact issue. The same hardware, 8800GTS/Core 2 Duo/4 gigs of RAM/Vista 32. Windlight worked great then I installed the RC and can't log in, the load bar spools up, then poof, nada.

I tried the suggestions posted here to no effect. I also sent in a ticket:

We have solved your issue
Solution:
Hi

Since WindLight is an alternate beta viewer, we don't really offer support service for problems or anomalies residents may encounter when using it.

What we ask is that any bugs, glitches, errors or other problems be reported through our public JIRA, where other residents can compare their notes and workarounds, list their experiences and system specs and give the developers data to go on in improving the client and what problems deserve the most attention.

Please try using the regular client. If you experience the same issues, please reopen this ticket and we will do our best to help you resolve them.

Looks like the guy that took a look at my ticket doesn't even know there is a new RC.

1.19.1 is killing me too! I was fine with the beta WL- the regular one before that gave me BSOD- now the new WL- is back to BSOD --- :(

I am thinking that the NVIDA GForce is seeming to be a common issue with us, and Vista.

A Fix For This Issue
03-12-2008 09:40
if anyone is interested, I found a workaround for this. Brought to my attention by a previous post I did some exploring.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5351

Vista users, your NOT going to find documents & settings in the file explorer it doesn't exist in Vista.

View this webpage and it will explain how to access the files.

http://4sysops.com/archives/documents-and-settings-in-vista/

After changing this setting in the RC XML I was able to sign onto SL and so far so good.

I hope this helps someone.

I was a die hard RC user until this last release. I couldn't even save full perm textures to disk anymore! I downloaded the regular viewer this morning,I am happy again.
