Apologies if it's been asked. I searched and didn't find a definitive answer to this...

A RL friend of mine who is not in SL wanted to buy me some L$ as a gift. She wanted to know how to do this, and I wasn't sure it was possible without her joining SL and coming inworld to make the financial transaction. Is it?

I believe she would have to create an account herself and then use that account to buy and transfer the L$ to you.

Of course, she could just send you real money via PayPal, and you could use that to buy L$ yourself.

/me waves to Feline :)

Feline, I'd asked this a while ago, and Ceera is right, unless someone actually joins there is no way for an outsider to be able to gift you money here. I think it would be a great idea to create gift cards of some sort for outsiders. I received cash for Xmas gifts and wanted to be able to use it here without bothering to put it into my own accounts and transfer it, etc. To me, it felt more special if it could have gone right into my inworld account.

Paypal would be the only other way as she mentioned. But, as others have said, cash is cash no matter what, so if your friend is gracious enough to want to donate to your account here, and there is no other way for you to get the money inworld, may as well just accept the usual way of doing things, and then celebrate once you have it, by buying yourself something fantastic anyway :D

I wonder why places like SLexchange have not done something like this

would not be that hard, person A not a member of SL, would send X amount of us dollars to slexchange to request that be changed to L's (using the exchange rate at that time) and transfer those L dollars to person B (SL person's name)

wonder how much potential for fraud there would be? I do not see it being any more so than buying L's for your own account.

If I had the means to do something like this I would, I just do not know how one would go about doing it.

(I tried the selling lindens to folks, mainly to help ppl who were still too new to buy much) and I got burned so it kinda scares me to try anything like that again
