I manage a small mall that has the land deeded to group. It has a set main tp point in the center. Even though I own the land technically (through group), I still have to land at the main tp first I presume because of the group owned land.
These are the settings on the land PRIOR to this incident: Create Objects ALL RESIDENTS Object Entry GROUP ONLY Run Scripts ALL RESIDENTS Safe (No Damage) OFF
Autoreturn 1 minute
OK, so here is the deal, this morning I go to check on things and try to tp into the mall and I keep getting sent HOME after dying. My home is another location, and unfortunately when I die, I am stuck and cannot move and have to relog.
Finally after 3 attempts, I click elsewhere in the sim and walk into the mall. There were 2 large sharks chomping around the central tp. At first, I thought it was someones avatar but after I did not see anybody come up on my avatar detector and the sharks still did not disappear, I clicked return to owner and they were gone. Lots of lag still, the kind that has you believing you really are in the Matrix. Then I noticed two little plywood boxes roaming around the tp still, I clicked them and returned them too. These were not owned by vendors in the mall.
These are the settings on the land AFTER to this incident: Create Objects ALL RESIDENTS Object Entry GROUP ONLY Run Scripts ALL RESIDENTS Safe (No Damage) ON
Autoreturn 1 minute
How is this possible that someone can have their belongings causing havoc for long periods of time without their items being returned? Is there a way to discourage this without turning off CREATE OBJECTS so shoppers can unpack their newly purchased items? Or is there something I am forgetting here?
(shortly after this happened, two griefers appeared and tried to put an orb around me. I was able to return what was surrounding me and finally was able to grab their avatar necks and wring it, and then froze them like the wart on my toe, and ejected them promptly)

Given that the land was set to damage, you'd need to ask yourself who has the power in your group to do that and why they'd do such a thing. I also think that if you had right buttoned clicked the objects, you'd have found that they were set to the group that owns the land... which bypasses the auto-return. Of course without having seen the objects, I couldn't say positively that this was so, but it does seem the likeliest way to do it.

Just a guess, as I haven't seen them, but most likely the sharks were these things: http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=283346This would also explain that you had been TP'd home. Someone who is authorized to deed objects to the land owning group apparently placed them there.

They're right... members of the group are allowed to enter objects and if the object is set to group it won't get returned. That's exactly how we got the cartel hangout to work. You'll also want to check the member abilities; someone obviously can set damage to on; I'd double check that. Sounds like you need to hunt down your group member griefer!

You are correct that those are the sharks I saw swimming around the tp... there were 2 of them. But when I clicked to see who it was, it was no member of the group and they were not set to group. Unless they were operating them from a far distance, I did not see anybody within 96m on my avatar detector. Its very puzzling.

Perhaps they were even set up with a temp-rezzer system?

From: Mortus Allen Perhaps they were even set up with a temp-rezzer system? Wouldn't necessarily have to be temp-on-rez, but yeah, it's certainly possible that the sharks and the plywood boxes were rezzing each other on a cycle, or something like that, thereby surviving the autoreturn interval. I don't think there's a way to prevent this without disabling either building or scripts. One strong suggestion to the OP, though, is to lose the central-routed TP. Renters and shoppers all *hate* that. But also, it introduces a nasty "single point of failure" security vulnerability, as was just exploited.

Thank you for that suggestion. On 2 malls I manage, they are open landing points. This mall I am referring to is in Kootenay and you can see what I mean, by the design, a central tp is best.

From: Angelique LaFollette If there was a Chance the griefer Paid money for the Item, i would delete it rather than return it. I'm pretty sure that 'delete' is just there as a placebo or to allow a moment of vengeful satisfaction. I have done tests with my alt and although the 'delete' option says it is deleting objects, they always appear in the owner's lost and found as if they were returned. :-/ -Atashi

From: Mu Bikcin Your going to need a bigger Mall. LOL well its the smallest of the ones I manage, its what I meant. The owner of the sharks contacted me and was nice about it but said his hud must have been left behind. Instead of displaying my ignorance on how that works, I'll just leave it alone. Still puzzles me how it was not autoreturned.
