Lite viewer options?

Its been some time ago I tampered with a couple lite viewers (i.e. Metabolt) just for curiosity sake.

Now I have a need for one but unsure which one if any will do the task I need.

I run my main avy on my main computer which supports SL full viewer.

I have a lap top that is unable to support the full SL viewer so I would like to load a lite version to log in my alt avy at the same time.

Question....
Will any of the lite viewers to your knowledge allow the avy to view an object..and sit/stand on various nearby objects? For photography purposes I want to be able to do couple shots but would require the lite viewer to see an object close by and sit/stand/move? Any thoughts or suggestions?

EDIT....I think I just answered my own question..going to Metabolt website it appears they do have this feature to "sit" on nearby objects. If anyone has tried this with Metabolt or something similiar please share. Thanks!

Have you tried running 2 copies of SL on your main computer? That would solve your problem.

Here is a link to the page that tells you how:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorial/How_to_run_multiple_viewers_at_the_same_time!_(Windows)

For some reason, the url does not show up properly in the forum. It shows correctly when I try to EDIT it, so...... the tail ind is supposed to be (Windows) with no space between (Win and dows)

If the alt is doing nothing more than posing, I suggest setting the graphics for that one way down low after logging in to reduce the total load no your computer.

There are a couple of tricks to lower load in SL.

One is to lower draw distance *below* the standard minimum of 64 meters:

Open Advanced menu: CTRL-ALT-T

Click on "Debug Settings"

Enter "renderfarclip" into the white box (renderfarclip is graphics geek speak for draw distance)

Enter a number like 32 or 40. I have tried values as low as 18 meters, below that and the world tends to go wonky (cant see anything)

Of course, you also should set the rest of the graphics settings to minimum and turn off other stuff.

If you do this a lot, use an alternate viewer, so your settings changes dont mess up your main viewer, or run on another computer.

If you are on windows, all you need to run multiple viewers at once is to edit the shortcut to include"

-multiple

after the location. That tells it to separate the data coming in for each copy you are running.

Best way to save CPU power for the second SL instance:

Set BackgroundYieldTime to 500 (or more) in the debug settings.

That will make SL sleep half a second (or more) after rendering every frame when it's not the foreground process.

I use Metabolt. It allows sit/stand and some interaction with objects. The drawback is that it sometimes doesn't bake the avatar correctly on-rez. Rebake usually fixes it. I use it for a lite client when all I want to do is IM or I want to give my creations to my alt for backups. I gather it can also be used as an intelligent bot but I have no need for that stuff.
