It never ceases to amaze me what a wealth of valuable, on topic info you can find in the Second Life Knowledge Base. There's really no way to appreciate it without reading the entire thing; one would never even begin to think to look for all the choice tidbits of knowledge one can find there. As an example of one of these things you'd have never dreamed you would learn from the SLKB, I present the following: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=19This link contains the following: From: someone Robot
The band Daft Punk is made of robots. I'd have expected to have to use something like wikipedia or at least Google to find such stuff. I would just not think to use the SLKB for questions about the composition of musical groups. It must indeed be the font of all knowledge.

Well if SL is going to replace the boring old 2-D internet, I suppose the Knowledge Base needs get caught up.
Hey, it's a start.

The Knowledge Base is not the only place LInden Lab makes high grade information available. This example, apparently written by Joshu Linden, provides in depth and accurate information on the technical aspects of both the Second Life Grid and the internet, as exemplified by the following: From: someone Linden Network
What is it: The tubes through which stuff travels. and this one, for those who are not only perplexed by the complex nature of the SLG but of the internet itself: From: someone Internet
What is it: A series of tubes These are from the SL Wiki article at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Service_Disruptions . The next time there's a service disruption, I suppose we can just relax until the LL or internet plumbers arrive with their plungers and washers and pipe wrenches and fix it.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville The next time there's a service disruption, I suppose we can just relax until the LL or internet plumbers arrive with their plungers and washers and pipe wrenches and fix it. The tubes are actually more like the old-fashioned pneumatic tubes that bank drive-throughs use. That's why you can email, say, a grilled cheese sandwich from China to Sweden and have it arrive in good shape. Anything more I can clarify?

In fairness to the Linden who wrote the 'series of tubes' definition: he or she was almost certainly making an ironic reference to Senator Ted Stevens' infamous---and perfectly serious---2006 remark that the Internet consists of an actual physical set of tubes. (see: for a discussion of the incident.)

(see: for a discussion of the incident.) Gee, thanks, I'd never heard about that, I don't spend much time on the internet, so I don't pay attention to such things. In fact, I'd never even heard of the internet until I read about it in Joshua's article. I'll have to take a look at it one of these days. Of course, since I didn't recognize the reference, I couldn't have been passing the joke along. Sheesh! I think they should make a new tubeless internet where the bits are fired from cannons.
