you were not listed as a active member in SL? Here is the deal: I rented land to a guy on a private estate. After multiple notes, IM's and LM's for over a week, I tried doing a search for him from another sim and realized he was not in the system any longer. Gave him a few more days and finally had to just return his objects and figured I would never hear from him again. So now I get a message from him that says this: From: someone Hello
Further to a probleme of modem, I was absent 10 days and I was not able to pay the rent of my ground. In my return, I acquired(bought back) this one and purchasse expenses. I would like in present to get back my building and all that it contained. I cannot work any more and I have contracts to be honored. Please do what's necessary as fast as possible.
Thank you greetings (name omitted) P.S. I have send you several IM (Sorry for my english)
This guy was clearly not in the system when I did a search because I asked a friend to do a search for this guy as well doing a copy/paste from his objects on land. So where does his stuff go? are they in his lost and found folder as 1 mass? I will help him go through his folder if necessary, but so far he is saying its not there. Is there a special space for these types of items?

Auto-returned objects should in theory go to Lost & Found but I remember some instances I believe of arriving in Objects and yes, a number of items can be grouped under the title of 'object' .. very intuitive!! So, I'd go through, rezzing each object in the hope one is a group of the auto-returns.

I have had this happen as well, the object can also be named what ever the first thing was that was snagged with, It can be called any thing - Tree, bush object.. It just depends on how it was auto returned. I think it is strange that it happens this way. Look for the group of boxes in the file lost and found. That is another way to speed up the looking for lost items grouped together. Good luck with the hunt.

Thanks for the 'other names' suggestion Dino. I'd forgotten that.
Dare I suggest the returning account holder try setting the threshold of the filter on 'Recent Items'?

The feature was suppose to let us just pick everything up at once and then set them back out again without having to link them... Now, why they did it for the returned items is anyone's guess. Lost a house that way once.. it was in the lamp.

Also forgot this one- when you set something out from your inventory that is all in a bundle use the build tool, it makes it handy to collect the items all in one grab. Other wise you can sit around for days picking up little bits Just a handy tip

The grouping thing is called Object Coalescing - you can tell an object is actually a group because it's inventory icon looks like a bunch of boxes (sortofa broken rubix cube) rather than just a single box. You can read more about it by searching for "coalesce" at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_Recovery_StepsAn account that's not active _is_ still there (we can still see the profile of Starax, for example) so I'd bet that anything auto-returned went back to his Lost & Found folder.

When you rez a coalesced object, the things in it will rez in the same physical relationship to each other that they originally had. I would do it, therefore, in a patch of safe empty sky, with the build tool open so that they are all selected automatically.

Coallesced objects are supposed to help with auto-returning replicating objects, but it's not very intuitive!

From: Raudf Fox Now, why they did it for the returned items is anyone's guess. It was part of the optimizations they did last year to reduce the impact of "gray goo" and the grid that was collapsing under the concurrency load. From: Kelly Linden @ Blog An object return creates load on 2 central systems - the asset system (creating the new assets) and the inventory databases (creating the new inventory items).
Auto returns currently do ‘object coalescing’ which helps reduce the number of assets and inventory items created by clumping together many objects into one return.

From: Dino Hallard ...named what ever the first thing was that was snagged with... Actually, just like choosing the root prim, it's the LAST thing selected that names the grouping... (So just shift-click twice on the object that you want to use for the "container"!) Yes, Bilbo, the coalesced object's date should put it toward the top of the Lost & Found folder (I just had this the other day from a mall renovation). Lastly, a warning, there is currently a bug that if the last object selected is set for sale, ALL the objects of the cluster get set for sale at that one's price!!! (For a moment yesterday, an entire vendor and L$5000 worth of contents was available for L$200 if you bought the vendor itself, LOL) Ah, I manually found the thread, unfortunately with a useless title that will never show in search:

Actually, while all the advice is correct, I believe the OP was asking what would happen if the account that the objects were being returned to was disabled, as it didn't appear in the search. Presumably he also hadn't paid his membership fee or some mainland tier and LL disabled his account.
I returned a house to a tenant of mine who was overdue with her rent and no longer appeared in the search. A few days afterwards, she came back and told me she'd been away and LL disabled her account for non-payment of premium membership fees. I asked her if she got her house back ok and she told me she had.

OK Got an answer according to experience:
If the avatar is not listed in search and you return their object, it does go back to their inventory to be retrieved when their account situation has been settled, presumably a lack of payment.
Thank you to all who answered in this thread. and you are correct Mr. Zenith. Thanks.

From: Meade Paravane He's correct??? He stole my answer!! /me grumbles. edit: I should have mentioned that I was referring to the problem with the avatar not being found in search and where the objects went in that case. Thank you for bringing the situation to a better understanding

And I don't want to buy/rent more land, just to retrieve my objects?
