For land I've sold!!? Eek... I sold my 1024 plot the other day...it was mainland/first land property and I sold it to relocate my store....now my account is showing 1024 allowed holdings.....it says I hold '0' but it shows the billing still as $5 a month. Before I bought the land....it showed $0 amount so I'm a little concerned that I will still be charged.
Anyone have any insights here?

Milla I'm guessing you sold it after the monthly billing cycle?

Tier is billed based on the largest amount of land you held in the prior month, not what you hold as of today. It should go back down next month.

I think it takes a day to show sometimes but 1024 allowed holdings and the $5 tier I admit is a little worrying. You should go down to 512 allowed and zero tier but I'd give it a day judging by the way things sometimes hang about.
edit: hmm .. I wasn't sure if the land statement corrected immediately - I am aware however of the full month of 512 or under, land for zero tier though.

One thing to check... go to your "Land Use Fees" page and scroll to the bottom to the "Update Tier" area. Make sure you have "US$0/month" selected instead of "US$5.00/month" before your next billing date. It DOES NOT go down automatically when you sell your land. So many people end up being billed tier even if they don't own anymore land just because they forget to check this.

As I understand it, your tier level can be set all the way up to whatever the maximum is, but LL will still only charge you for the amount of land you actually owned in the prior month. Edit: I should say, the *largest* amount of land you owned in the prior month.

I just reset mine......and what an eye opener that tier fee guide is......I own two 4096 parcels on a private sim....I got them for cheap....but the tier is high.....and it's pretty dam obvious the sim owner is making a killing on tiers. Fitting that his name is Tool. LOL

When I sold off all my land even the manual reset of the tier didn't take effect until over a month later. My monthly total cost displayed didn't change, but then when the billing cycle came around again I wasn't charged. It still has my allowable holdings at what I was at when I sold even though I downgraded to a basic membership. Let the billing cycle run before even bothering to contact LL is my advice.

Hmm.... after reading the page again now, it seems you are right. I could have sworn this happened to me when I first joined though. But I wasn't as experienced so it could have been something else that caused me to retain full tier costs (like perhaps owning a slight bit of land over my limit for a few hours after my billing date passed, which still counts against tier). Regardless, I just assume that it's probably safer to keep the tier level manually set... because I don't trust LL.

It's not SUPPOSED to work that way though. From: someone Regardless, I just assume that it's probably safer to keep the tier level manually set... because I don't trust LL. Good plan.

Your Tool of a landlord has no means to hide that from you, so in my opinion you can't fault him for anything.

Errr... you're criticizing someone for acquiring an asset (land) and then for failing to take the time to understand things about their asset, like associated costs (tier fees). In these situations it's always the fault of everyone else.

From: someone It might have...it's hard to say with LL. It's not SUPPOSED to work that way though. Just another anecdotal experience: tier fees go up automatically but have to be lowered manually on the web page. This was about a year ago, and according to Sally Struthers I could have fed all Namibia for the extra $10 tier I paid over 2 months.
